My whole family loved this movie- it isn't just for little boys who love baseball but for everyone. Everyone can do great things if they put their minds to it and have a little help from friends. Yankee (the main character) see Babe Ruths bat get stolen- he has to get it back to The Babe for the World Series is over because it is Babe's lucky bat. Along the way Yankee finds himself befriending a baseball who was labeled "foul" and Darlin', Babe's bat. They travel together and alond the way Yankee learns how to be a better baseball player by listening to a girl who helps him learn how to throw (and get bullies to leave him alone) and Yankee gets a ride from a Negro League tean who helps him bat. When he gets to Chicago to the World Series- the adventure isn't over yet! Highly recomended movie! Great for everyone.Read full review
This is an all age movie that can eventually get the hardest strongest member of the viewing audience in an occasional tear. I rate this up there with the movie of Bambi for striking the soft-side of us all. Complete with moral standards that omits you don't need cursing to make a movie tops. Society is crumbling with all the values of manners downgraded. This movie has a positive plot and although still very hard to believe in today's society, it shows how people supported others in years past. Makes us want to relive the past to escape what we face today all around us. The "Good Old Days!" long gone but never forgotten. I would invite the opportunity to view more movies with this positive contribution to entertainment. Keep up the great work. This is one movie you should not judge by the cover as it is must see for all ages.Read full review
I am rating this 5/5-excellent I found this film to be highly overlooked, but a stunning surprise. I missed this film in theaters,so the dvd was purchased. We knew very little about it,but gave it a try.WE ALL LOVED IT! This film can reach out to ANYONE!The young, old, male, female, maybe even a pet! This uses action, comedy, sports, and the heart to make this jewel. It can please and entertain, while teaching the kids some valuable life lessons.(they won't know their learning)!Makes the kids wanna go out and enjoy the day! Highly recommended!
My 4 year old son, who LOVES baseball, also LOVES this movie! Great story about Babe Ruth and his "Darlin'"! Wonderful story about a little boy who just "keeps on swingin'" and comes through in the end as the hero. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it! My son was able to transcend the story to use the idea of "keep trying" in real life even at such a young age. Great entertainment and life lessons. I haven't looked up historical accuracy, but things seem on par to the sandlot baseball fans! A must see for little baseball fans!
I like this movie mostly because my son loved it. We rent a movie for family night every Friday and for about a month he kept wanting this movie, so that's why we decided to buy it. You can watch it multiple times and not get sick of it. The boy in this movie has such great determination to help his father because he could not bear the thought of his dad's disappointment. The plot in this movie is very typical of real life. Someone is jealous of another who is successful, so he tries to sabbatoge his success. Along the way, Yankee (the little boy) meets a few friends who give him a few key lessons in baseball. At the end he gets to live out a lifelong dream of his. What a good scenario!
