This is the first time that I've seen Erik the Viking on Region 1 format. This movie first came out in January '89 and more or less flopped at the box office. The redemption for this movie is for the fans of Monty Python. Terry Jones and John Cleese have cameo roles in the film and I believe it was directed by Terry Jones. Its a good movie with characters that are interesting and fun to watch as they interact with others. Watch for the father and son viking "Berserkers", the cloak invisible and Harold the Missionary. Tim Robbins is the token American in the role and our titular hero. This is Tim Robbins I believe, before Susan Sarandon and before his politics skewed his views. I had taped this movie off The Movie Channel back when it aired and I ruined the tape from watching it so much. Check this movie it out...it's worth it especially for any Python fans and anyone looking for light-hearted fare.Read full review
But recently reduced. I suggest the British double Dvd release including a 107 minute cut and the Directors Son's cut. The son actually did a wonderful job with the arrangement and speed of the film, cutting it down to about 75 minutes. However, he turned it into an action adventure movie instead of the original slower paced odyssey of humor and social commentary that it was. The father was never happy with the original cut, and three releases of 114, 107, and 100 minutes resulted, somewhat by accident. I look at it as Terry was pure genius, and God stepped in to liberate the original full version of the film. Of which everyone and their dog, if you happen to speak dog, or have a dog that speaks in English, agree that it was well loved and enjoyed by all. Terry, don't beat yourself up, everything you do is golden, and Bill, you did a wonderful job at creating a brand new movie from an already masterful production. I do suggest that you both work on another Dvd release of a 114 minute or more cut of the film, and you'll both get well bloody rich since most Americans can't play region 2 Dvds. Perhaps even shoot new footage to match the old grain and add an aditional hour (with optional new/old cut). It would mean money the likes of which all your enemies would envy and hate you. Thank you very much, and I do hope the Jones' get wind of this. With much love, your friend across the pond.Read full review

Funny, over the top spiritual humor. Reminds me of the legend of the fall of Atlantis and, very funny and very light hearted. I actually enjoyed it. had not seen it for a while.
