I first bought this back in the 70's when It came with a vinyl record. I had played guitar for years, so with the instructions in Earl's own voice I picked this up pretty fast. I hadn't played in years. I found the book, but the LP was long gone. I had an accident a few months ago that may mean I'll never play again, but if I ever can I know this will be the quickest way to pick up banjo again. Make sure you get the book with the CD. Some I found when I was looking for it only had the book.

Great book and even greater musician. However , do not insult Earl Scruggs by lying. This is NOT the with CD edition. The book is expensive which is fair enough given who wrote it but DO NOT LIE and say it has a CD. Downloadable does not equal CD so it gets 4 stars not free as minus 1 for your deception. Good book though.

I had the older published version. This revised and enhanced edition has the complete Foggy Mountain Breakdown tabs and more songs than the older version.

It is one of the best banjo courses on the market. It is narrated by the master of the banjo Earl Scruggs himself. I have bought a lot of useless music books and courses through the years. This is the gold standard as far as i'm concern. What made me decide to buy it was because the book I bought before this one said it had words to the songs and tablature. The tablature when I got it only had the melody notes. If I knew enough to add the rolls and licks I wouldn't need the book. Earls book has the complete songs as he plays them.
