I love this game. I purchased this as a replacement for a broken disk. The first thing I must mention is that the graphics are excellent; for the era from which this game was written. It is an old game, out of print, and the graphics are dated by today's standards, though they were considered quite good when it was released. Game play is third-person; you look down on your creatures and dungeon from "on high". You can also possess creatures under your control and play first person, though this is only practical to carry out specific missions. Probably what appeals to me more than anything else is that it is just fun to be the bad guy. Having played games like Diablo for some years prior it was just simply a blast playing the other side, where you have to protect your evil dungeon from all of those pesky goody-two-shoes heroes. There is a LOT of really quirky humor woven into the game, such as the very grim warning "Your dungeon is filled with yoghurt". or at midnight the announcement "'Tis the witching hour; curses are half price". it's also quite fun to watch your creatures disco dancing in the casino to 1970's tunes. I have noticed that the game does play best on older computers. It seems that if the system has more than 500MB of memory it gets unreliable. This may not be true of later releases, but I found it simply runs better on Pentium II era machines. To summarize this is probably the most fun of all the vintage games I have played.Read full review
Game Play 5 of 5 stars Graphics 4 of 5 stars Sound 4 of 5 stars A.I. 3 of 5 stars Pros: Cons: Overall: This is a good title and will provide several hours of entertainment. Had to install an automatic update to allow the game to resume from pause mode after a saved game load. Please note: this title was reviewed using a Dell XPS Gen 4, P4 HT @ 3.20 GHz, 4 Gig RAM, Dual 160 SATA RAID(0) hard drives and a nVidia GeForce 6800 256mb PCIe video adapter. It is important to read and understand the minimum and recommended system requirements for any PC video game. Systems that are faster than the minimum may provide significantly better performance and improve your gaming experience. Some PC video games list specific video card requirements and will not function without. It is also important to mention (because we sell video games on ebay) that we do not sell titles as NEW once they are opened and installed for testing. Most test games find a home with one of our testors (employees) and in rare circumstances, we will sell clearly marked as opened and used.Read full review
My husband and I have owned at least 5 or 6 copies of this game and fight over it and the poor things end up getting broke, scratched and so forth. I got 3 this time.. lol now my kids like it too!! Graphics are amazing for the date of the game, yes adult content but not that bad. you beat levels by building a dungeon (sort of like Age of Empire build a city)accomplish the task for that level, and then move on to next level. In one aspect it's another life/simulation game. So matter of taste if you like this. It's right up there on the shelf with Age of Empires for us!! Always there, always fun to play if nothing else to do, or bored somewhere with laptop. Shame EA bought the company out, and put breaks on them, DK3 was looking great!
I only enjoyed this game because of my tastes for RTS and Dungeon Keeper I. However, the product itself was slightly flawed. When I inserted the CD-ROM to install the game, the software prompted me to change settings on my computer so that it was compatible with XP (so far so good). However, as I later found out during multiple campaign levels, I would get randomly booted off the game and an error report would appear on the screen titled "MC SHIELD XC.exe." I wasn't sure how to fix this, and I did email the creators, but was never contacted back. This created a very annoying environment to play in, since I had to save the game every 15 minutes, so I wouldn't lose my work and have to revert back to my previously saved game. The product came with little instructions other than an online guide, and nothing to help me see why an error report my pop up on my screen. If anything, try another seller, because Dungeon Keeper 2 is a great game, but not from this seller.Read full review
Great game for the casual real time strategy love. Your job is to build increasingly more complex dungeons; which in turn begets ever darker creatures. Your goal is to kill mortals that reside in your realm. The learn curve is easy; each new creature, weapon, or room is described as the become available. New rooms are by far the most exciting part of the game. As you progress new types of rooms become available; most of the time these rooms allow newer and stronger creatures to live in you dungeon. You can be as evil as you to your own team; slapping them silly, or picking them up and dropping from high and seeing the damage you have done. Dungeon Keeper 2 is a great game for those who appreciate older games that are slower than today's which are just to fast for me. I'm 32 and i hate to admit i'm an old time gamer.Read full review
