This is book 6 in a series of 17. First time I have read anything by this author & I am totally hooked! Love the beautiful setting and all of the Indian folklore. I especially love this family and all 5 members are strong, loving & so normal! You will instantly connect and be brought into their family situations. Dad is a local sheriff, mom is a lawyer, 2 teen girls are as different as can be & younger brother is so sweet. If you like a good mystery, a lot of adventure & characters that are so real you immediately know you won't easily put this book Down, then this is the series for you! Copper River really tests this family limits and keeps you turning the pages as fas as you can!

What's not to love about a lyrical and insightful whodunit wherein one of the secondary characters moonlights trading on eBay as a self-proclaimed "broker"? And her "horse trading" results in a super birthday gift for one of the main characters: a stash of vintage comic books featuring his favorite classic superheros. How eBay is that?! Like all of the critically acclaimed Cork O'Connor novels by award-winning author William Kent Kreuger, "Copper River" has so much to recommend, it's hard to know what to praise first or most. These books are far more than murder mysteries. They are paeans to the natural world of northern Minnesota and, in "Copper River", Michigan's Upper Peninsula; they are complex and utterly believable character studies; they are so elegantly written that they can move you to tears. "Copper River" continues the arc of a storyline introduced in "Mercy Falls", so read that first if at all possible. Or go ahead and read "Copper River", then read "Mercy Falls", and go back and enjoy "Copper River" again all the more! I love Kreuger's Cork O'Connor books so much, I haven't traded in a single one of them. I'm keeping them until I've read them all, then I plan to read them all over again in order. I can't pay any higher compliment than that! Sheriff Cork O'Connor is on the run from professional hit men who have already put a bullet in his leg. But while he's hiding out in an old resort owned by his cousin, a bitter widow with a 14-year-old son, the body of a young girl surfaces in the Copper River. Then another teenager vanishes, and Cork finds himself pulled into tracking a ring of killers who prey on innocent children. The book opens with a gripping chase scene as the youthful murder victim seeks to elude her captors. That foreknowledge serves to heighten our engagement with the plot as it unfolds. The pacing is masterful, heightening the suspense and luring the reader deep into the world Kreuger so vividly describes. The climax is gripping and the denouement downright poetic, not to mention entirely satisfactory. If you like your mysteries reality-based and stunning without excessive gore, then you will love William Kent Kreuger as much as I do. Get "Copper River"…read it…and discover a keeper.
