This book was written as Tijerina's dissertation. It is well written, well researched, and interesting, and it is easy to read. He covers the subject of the Tejanos in Texas from the point of view of a Tejano rather than the Anglo. Other authors - such as Barker - seem to leave this out, but it is needed to present the whole picture. More people need to read books like this to understand the part many people played in the settling of Texas and the contributions the Mexican laws and people made to the area. I bought the book because I checked it out of the library for a graduate course and enjoyed it so much I needed my own copy. For anyone looking at the history of Texas it is a must read.
