The old diaphragm was hard and cracked. Ethanol fuel degrades the rubber so it would be best use non-ethanol fuels. This carburetor had another problem also, the sealing surface where the diaphragm mates was warped, leaked and needed resurfaced so it sealed. So check that surface and the mating surface on the fuel tank with a precision straight edge if they are warped they must be addressed to make them seal. Don't over tighten the screws that hold the carburetor to the tank (like I did), that will cause the carburetor to warp. Don E.
