I really enjoyed the film overall. Visually pleasing special effects. The story and plotline were exceptional. The characters were well-played/acted by Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb and Zooey Deschanel. The one thing that really surprised me was that for a Disney film, it was so heartbreakingly sad.

This movie will be loved by all ages and will only be rated low by those who do not understand it. This movie deals with many childhood and adult issues such as peer pressure, family, loyalty, loss, imagination, life, and so much more. To really take in all this movie has to offer, you yourself have to be open-minded. So many have forgotten about imagination and what life is about. Children today are given less outlets to use their imagination due to all the toys and inventions they now have to choose from. Many children now turn to anger, unable to cope with what life brings them. It is special when a child can go beyond this and make the most out of "their" world. My Grandfather used to encourage us (and join in!)to use our imaginations and our world became very special, so much so that some people around us who did not understand could not fathom how we smiled so much! Most wallowed in their misery with complaints never ending; we enjoyed life and made wonderful childhood memories. And absolutely we knew where real life began and ended. If you are open-minded, you will understand and very much enjoy this movie. This movie has much to teach us about ourselves.Read full review
I expected more animation, I really didn't know what the movie was about, so I judged it by the previews and pictures. I would hope that the kids today would grasp onto the movies' meaning, not sure. Children with imagination of this kind is not easy to find. We can learn from this movie, we give our kids too much to play with. They don';t know how to make up their playtime. Would be good for kids from that standpoint. It's sad when the little girl dies
I will be forever moved by this movie!! Here I am a grown man fighting back tears in front of my 11 year old son, even having to turn away from him several times, barely able to handle the emotion this movie delivers. Coming from a horror flick fan that phases out the kiddie movies, this one captured my interest and never let go. I found myself captured by the real life hardships of being a kid in school, many of which brought me back to my school days. Whether you were the Bully or the Bullied, whether you were the new kid or one that wasn't able to go to school with the latest fads, this movie will force you to ponder your school days and add a special ingredient of that one special friend you could escape life's hardships with and move into a world of fantasy. Imagine how absolutely horrible it would be to have that world ripped away! The Boy took that pain and turned it into something good by reaching out and making someone else feel special! To label this as one of them feel good movies for kids would be grossly inaccurate as there is little "feel good" qualities about it with the exception of two kids with the need to escape from their own realities finding each other...but even that doesn't last long. Imagine having a million bucks then losing it overnight... I recommend this one to the young and the old, to parents, to classrooms, to everyone!! One other movie that had somewhat of a similar but lesser affect with me was "Pay it Forward" and then there was E.T.Read full review
This movie was a true gem! I bought it on a whim, and was more than pleased with my selection. It took me back on a personal level. I grew up in a home surround by woods and the adventures my sister and I had when we were younger in our tiny little woodland area! LOL It was pure joy to watch these young characters find solitude and importance in a world created solely by their own imagination! My children (ages 8-16) as well as myself, were honestly moved by the many different things that happened throughout this film! Laughter, tears, joy...so easy to relate to much of what you watched because of your own personal experiences as a child. One thing my 10 year old said after the movie, "let's go outside and play terabithia". That's right, put away the video games, click off the Ipods and hit that imagination highway! Highly recommend for great family viewing.Read full review
