I've had powered Bazoookas before and they were excellent. This one is not (powered) and will (most likely) require an amplifier. I installed it in my 2004 Ford F-250 SuperDuty extended cab and it fits perfectly under the rear seat. The small 2-channel amp sits right beside it and was easy to hook up. I used a DUAL head unit that's double DIN sized and it has RCA plug-ins for the SUB-OUT. These RCA wires go to the small amp (also a DUAL) and I used the "bridged" wire hookup to the subwoofer and it works perfectly. The amp has range and volume controls as well as low and high bypass switches which help tailor the sound. But from the driver's seat, once the power, ground and remote leads are connected and the subwoofer hooked up, adjusting the range for the subwoofer via the head unit is pretty simple. The amplifier for the subwoofer is an absolute necessity if the head unit has no amplifier in it for the subwoofer channel. I thought mine did but when I connected the RCA jacks, no sound from the tube. A trip to the store, a small $60 amp and I was in business. I'm using the stock speakers in the doors of the truck and I get enough with the help of the built-in equalizer of the head unit to really make the sound have more body and richness. The subwoofer allows me to do this by being so powerful that I can actually have too much bass for some music while not enough for others. I'm not a "blaster" but I like my favorite music to have more body and oomph to it and the stock speaker setup has no bass to speak of. For the price, this Bazooka unit fills in that gap very well but again, you'll probably need an amplifier for it. My head unit has all sorts of subwoofer controls such as cut-off range and volume but without the amp, you'll get nothing out of it. My mistake. Next time I'll buy the powered unit. Just the same, this subwoofer gets the job done and inside the cab of my diesel truck, it overpowers that noise easily. The bottom is filled in nicely and if I need to tweak it more, I can adjust the amplifier some for more or less responsiveness or volume. I do this to set "base levels" and then "fine tune" things from the head unit. I recommend this unit based on ease of installation, cost, easy to take out if storage space is needed and of course, the SOUND. Very powerful but small unit. Read full review

Found a broken one in a local pawn shop for $37. Tested the speaker with one of their multimeters, it read 1.5 ohms per coil. Being a handyman, I know that PVC glue works great on black ABS. Took it all apart and reglued backplate to cabinet. After 5 minutes I liberally applied glue to inside edge where cabinet touches backplate to prevent air leaks and strengthen the repair bond. I did this thrice since this glue dries fairly quick. I also glued the front rubber gasket to the cabinet for strength and air leak prevention. Next day I ran a new wire in series for a 3 ohm load from sub to a hole on the backplate bypassing the built in amp. Put it all together and hooked it up to an xd600/1v2 by JL. I was impressed. It sounded best at 120 hz cutoff at 12db slope. I've wanted a 10" because I am a basshead but this one proved to be more than enough. I will order the missing wiring harness. If the built in amp works and sounds good, I will wire it that way, if not I will just add an external amp. This is destined for mom's Encore, bound to sound awesome in there.Read full review

This is a great sounding sub. I put this in my boat that has a closed bow and a very shallow cuddy. This thing hits super hard and just rocks the boat!
