If you're familiar with the board game Axis & Allies, the PC Windows early versions of this game were very true to the original game and made playing this a lot easier (and faster). The AI with the four-star computer generals you face is very good but it falls short of an opponent that can throttle you (good thing actually) if you're a good player. If not, I guess it will eventually beat you but there always seems to be a window you can take before you hit the wall. Although there are some minor quirks for some options, nothing major that departs from the purist version of the game. When I first purchased this many moons ago, there was a patch on the Hasbro web site that fixed the option quirks (there was a bug with the paratrooper capability and I think the game would allow you to use fighters you couldn't always land at sea). I didn't test that all of those quirk are in my version but I assume so. Great game though. Worthy every penny.Read full review
This is a fun game. For those who enjoy Axis & Allies but can't always find friends to play the board game, this is a great alternative. The game is straightforward and presents enough of a challenge that you will be entertained. I can certainly see a young person having to use a few brain cells thinking through production, combat, and overall strategy. The price of this pc game was reasonable. So even if it isn't the game for you -- you won't suffer buyers remorse either. Like any game, a person can grow tired of repetition, but the ability to play different sides -- British, Russian, German, Japanese, or USA should offer variety. Enjoy!
A very good strategy game, like playing chess, takes a bit of thinking.

If your a World War II buff then this is a must have game. It is turn based but there is plenty to keep your attention. You get to chose to either be England, Germany, Japan, Russia or United States each which requires their own strategy. You have units like infantry, tanks, fighters, bombers, battleships, aircraft carriers, submarines etc. You get points for the amount of territory you won called IPCs which go towards building more units at the beginning of each turn. There is also research development which allows you to put points towards upgrading your units. All in all its a really good game if your into World War II and dont mind a good turn based game. Its one of my favorite games.
I enjoy the detail of many of the miniatures. The game planning is done well and has a fairly good balance between the different factions. There are those who do find problems with the balance but nothing is perfect. For fans of WWII battle simulation, the game is enjoyable. The pieces can also be used for other WWII battle simulations using different game systems.
