Jitterbug uses it's own network-piggybacked on Verizon. Since I had Verizon with my dad's old smart phone, I assumed it would be easy. I was very wrong. The process of getting it switched took 3 days! No senior that is not tech savvy could have done it easily.

Designed primarily for elderly users the Jitterbug Smart is designated to be less costly than more high-end phones, while being simple to use. The latest and most sophisticated of the Jitterbug line, this new phone has a much larger screen, and runs on a later version of the Android operating system. In an obvious desire to maintain lower pricing for its elderly clientele, the camera has a few more features than the previous phone, but is a comparatively low-resolution device. In addition, the supported micro SD capacity has been LOWERED from the previous model's 64 GB to 32GB. Internal memory remains the same at a substandard 8GB, about five GB of which is taken up by the operating system. Although far less costly than many other high-end phones, there are a number of phones in the same price category as the Smart that provide many more upgraded features. Although the new phone is rated at 4G, there appears to be no noticeable improvement in connect-ability and speed over the previous 3G model. The main advantage is its ease of use, thanks to a less cluttered interface, as well as good support from GreatCall, the phone service behind this device. The monthly service is also less costly than higher-end phone companies. If one is mainly interested in ease of use and less costly monthly service, the Smart should be adequate.Read full review

This product is marketed to seniors. However, the touch screen is not great even for nimble young hands. Its not so simple to make a call--you have to go through a number of steps. Bought for my 85 year old mom who can't seem to get the hang of it and is more frustrated than anything else.

This phone drops calls and sometimes freezes or won't restart. Definitely not as good as the Samsung 5 I had. Too bad Jittebug can't use Samsung. I also drop to 3G a lot so I guess I'mnot getting the benefit of the 4G network
