Having tried several other styles of rain guages in the past, I can unequivocally say that this one only appears to have one flaw, you have to take the guage completely apart, unscreww from location, unscrew from base, to replace the batteries. Otherwise, it appears to be working as stated. Haven't checked accuracy since we haven't had any rain. Maybe I didn't need a rain guage after all.

Well, I must say that the seller was more than kind in dealing with me. But the gauge is not very impressive. I have a remote temperature gauge by Accu-rite and it seems to work fine, though I suspect one must use high voltage batteries, i.e. NIZN, rather than NIMH, or alkaline rather than carbon for you throw away addicts else it may not be linear (accurate) at high temperatures, but this rain gauge doesn't seem to have the same guts when it comes to the RF link. the temp gauge reads four bars nearly always, the rain gauge may drop to zero at times. I live in Arizona, so I'm still waiting to see any rain registered. Physically the thing seems well made and is easy to set the display parameters.

Since I purchased this product the communication between the transmitter and the receiver has been spotty. Usually there are 4 bars, however, often it drops to no bars. Often during a rain storm the link drops to no bars, but this occurs during perfect weather, as well. Batteries are brand new Duracell and when the link shows 4 bars...the measurement is accurate. I just wish it worked consistently. I am going to throw this unit away and purchase a rain gauge of a different brand.

Works great if you want to guess how much rain falls. Tried it for a couple of weeks with little rain and it did not record much of anything. When rain came it did not record much of anything. Installed a non automatic rain gauge next to this and compared them. One night got 1.1" of rain in the real rain gauge and .34 in this thing. Next day got .3" in the real gauge and .65 in the automatic one. Not anything I would recommend.
