The Complete Inspector Lynley Mysteries were something my wife was familiar with from reading the books so I got the DVDs as a gift for her. We both love them! Within the first two episodes we were linked to the characters and love the setting in England. The only critique we have is that the accents are occasionally a bit thick for us Americans to penetrate, but that's never interfered with our enjoyment of the stories. We recommend them to anyone who is a fan of British police mysteries.

Very engaging mystery series with strong leads. Characters grow richer with each succeeding year. Series is on par with Morse and Lewis. And it has closed captions!

At their best the episodes are engaging and enjoyable: at worst, not so much so. There was no episode I really didn't enjoy, but there were a few that were slow going. There is chemistry between the two leads, but it is suppressed in the interest of maintaining the class distinction between them. Given how much of the series is devoted to the romantic interests of the male lead, it's a shame they never explored the possibilities between the two lead characters: maybe in some future revival of the franchise this will be explored. The plots frequently center around the family and friends of the Lynley character, causing him much angst as he has to deal with the implications of investigating people he knows. Note that there is a very jarring change of actress in a supporting role: you see the new actress and wonder what new character she is, until you figure out she's a new incarnation of an old character.Read full review

Elizabeth George is a fine writer. I read all her books available in 2004-05. I recently discovered this video series and bought it right away. The casting is really good. The ongoing tension between the Lieutenant and Inspector is clear but it also illustrates the growing respect between the two. I was happily surprised to find that CC was available in the USA. The screen size is smaller by several inches, which annoys me whenever I turn on a video, but then I forget it after a few minutes and just enjoy the story.

Good mysteries and a decent price. It was a used version that was in excellent change.
