Great for streaming Netflix, Hulu plus, Crackle and playing .avi, mpg, .mkv
These are great for streaming Netflix, Hulu plus and Crackle. They also play just about any .mpg, .avi, .mkv and many other formats if you have movies or files like that you want to play. The YouTube app is no longer supported so used to work with YouTube but DOES NOT anymore. They can be connected to TV with HDMI or component (5 RCA's) or with RCA's 1 video and 2 audio. also have a s/pdif digital audio out. The network can be wired 10/100 or wireless N, setup is very easy if you know what you need to about your network settings.

Must have, it will turn your TV into a Smart TV
Bought 2 Sony SMP-N200 on Black Friday for a great price and I've had them for a week now. At first I was very hesitant because it had a lot of 3 star ratings on other sites, mostly due to bad connection with the wifi. We bought it home and installation took only a few minutes, everything is very straightforward and instructions are all on the screen. The most annoying part of the whole process was just registering your product, so have a laptop with you when doing so. Enter a few codes and you're good to go!
My family mainly make use of the Netflix and Youtube feature. The Netflix feature is pretty great since I like the way the choices are displayed, a little small, but that's because it shows more movies on one page than other players. Nevertheless, it's definitely not small to the point where you can't see the options because I'm near sighted but only wear my glasses for class, yet a little squinting does the job and I am able to see the titles. So far, I haven't experienced much wifi errors where the movie would stop and buffer, only on one movie I was watching yesterday, but that's all, my dad has yet to experience any problems.
The Youtube feature gives this an advantage over Roku players. However, entering the name of what you want is definitely a huge, huge pain because there is no keyboard on the remote. With that being said, there is an app where you can use your smart phone to input the names, then the keyboard wouldn't be a problem. If you don't plan on doing this, it is easier to put the content you want to watch on a playlist and then sign into your account to play it. This method works great for my dad because he doesn't have a smart phone.

For the price, it offers USB port and audio ports (handy for older televisions) compared to the Roku which only offers this option on the XS.

Overall, this is a great product for its price. It really turns your TV into a smart TV without the extensive cost. I recommend it! Would have been 5 stars if there was a keyboard remote like the $200 version (hence the price...haha.)

1 MONTH UPDATE

So I've had the 2 SMP-N200 for a little over a month now and we have added another one to our other TV because we loved it so much. Still very rare connection errors, like once a week, but it's weird cause that's only with the one in my room lol. The TV downstairs takes a few seconds longer to stream since it's farthest from the modem upstairs, but once it streams, it does not stop and buffer constantly. Since it has made streaming so easy and addicting, we expanded out of only using Youtube and Netflix and subscribed to Huluplus and Amazon prime. We might even get VUDU, haha, talk about addicted; this is coming from a girl who use to NEVER turn on the TV.

My sister bought a smart TV from Samsung the same week we bought our first 2 SMP-N200. Even from the first week she noticed that our streaming players load content way quicker than her smart tv. When you click into a streaming service, e.g Netflix, the content page loads right away where as for her TV it would take about 1-2 seconds longer to get to that page, where the TV would go black and then load the content page. It's been a month and she still feels the same way, so she just bought this Sony player last week for her TV upstairs. Now we have 3 Sony SMP-N200 players in our house and any relatives that come over are jealous and are bugging us about getting one for them!Read full review
