The crooner who wowed bobby soxers faded into oblivion when he divorced his childhood sweetheart Nancy for Ava Gardner. George Jacobs was a valet and chef to Hollywood agent Swifty Lazar when he first met a down and out Frank Sinatra. He became his agent right before the film "From Here to Eternity" and Sinatra's meteoric rise to heights he'd never dreamt of when he was singing with Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. In Mr. S. Jacobs speaks admirably of a man whom he considered family for the better part of a decade and a half. He chronicles Sinatra's rendezvous with the Kennedys, Sam Giancana and men whom the world would lovingly refer to as the "Rat Pack." He tells of hanging with the women in Sinatra's life from Ava Gardner and Marylin Monroe to Mia Farrow. It is an honest telling of the life of a man whom the world knew only as a larger than life personality, but didn't truly know as a man. Jacobs tips his hat to Francis Albert Sinatra one last time.Read full review
This version of Frank seems much more truthful and accurate compared to his daughters version of FS. According to all we have heard all these years. It really tells things no one else was privy to and is so interesting it is hard to put down. You keep wanting to ask him a question and dig deeper for more information. We are so fascinated with this legend. No one will ever know for sure all the truths, but this guy was there and lived it. I think the story he tells paints a true picture of what this man was like, good bad or otherwise. It also has information I havent read anywhere else. Give it a read if you are into FS, but read the other books too for a good comparison, than you decide. I cant wait to read Barbaras version in 2011.
This is what it would be like to come fly with Frank Sinatra. It includes a lot of personal moments that include the biggest names in classic Hollywood. There is Frank at his best & Frank at his worst. Most fans probably don't want to hear the worst, but I think it's mostly true. This takes you on a personal journey. I would suggest reading George Jacobs', Tina Sinatra's & Nancy Sinatra's books. This & Tina's bio's are the best I've read. Includes Garbo, Ava, the Kennedys, Giancana, Bogey, Sammy, Dino, Mia, & just about everybody else.
