This club had an excellent reputation for innovation. It hit the ball high and long in its day. I decided to buy it because of that reputation. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. For me it did not perform up to the levels achieveable by almost any of the more recent designs by almost any manufacturer. Even the relatively new hybrids seemed to hit the ball higher and farther and were easier to get elevation on from tight lies. I could only recommend that club for people who have one already that they want to replace. I think most people would be better off with either a newer fairway metal for the three and four wood type clubs and hybrids for the mid iron type clubs. For people who really still like the head on this club I would recommend replacing the shaft with a newer shaft. Callaway preowned would probably do that for you.Read full review
I realize that there are many 3 Woods out on the market these days that tend to have more distance, more forgiveness, and all that other happy hoo-ha that the latest and greatest supposedly brings with it. Personally, I've hit lots of fairway woods over the years, including the two that were both considered the longest fairway woods in The World. (The Tour Edge CB2 and The AGT Super Nova). I just retired a Supernova in order to put this 3 Wood in my bag. These may be an old model, but they were darned popular in their time for a reason--They Worked!----Guess what?---They still do. My Supernova can clip this thing by a good 10-15 yards, but this one is the easiest fairway wood to hit that I've ever owned. Funnier still--it's more workable than the vast majority of the latest and greatest. This old dog will be in my bag for the next two seasons, and will be re-evaluated at that time. Meanwhile--she has gone against the best there is to offer and EARNED HER SPOT in my bag.Read full review
I love BB Steelhead Plus clubs! Period. My first experience with these clubs was a loaner-driver that changed my game on the very first Tee shot. I've since acquired two more drivers and a 3 and 5 fairway wood. I even bought my 14-year old grandson a LH driver. Don't get me wrong. I like the newer bigger "war weapons" from off the tee box but the fit and feel of these BB Steelheads gives me better control of my swing. I even use the 12-degree driver as my go-to fairway wood! I loaned my playing partner my 11-degree driver and never got it back. I just hope these "relic" clubs don't become extinct.
I purchased this club for a friend looking to match his 3w. Although these older fairway woods from Callaway are no longer made, they were the first woods Callaway made with hot face technology. They were very popular and remain in many players bags as beloved fairway woods. They are explosive off the face and easy to hit and get up quickly. They are getting more difficult to find in good shape, but can be gotten reasonably cheap. The 5w I bought was listed as used but very good shape, when it arrived it was actually almost new. I was happy with the purchase and my friend is enjoying the club.
Bought these woods (3,5,7) for my youngest daughter. They were purchased for a fantastic price and I trust the Callaway name. She had never played golf before and after practicing with her a few times, she hit them very well. She's only 11 and was hitting the 7W from the fairway with a pretty high level of confidence. They are very well made and fairly forgiving. I've hit them myself. If I swing slower and more smoothly, I can knock them pretty well. If you are looking for very good quality fairway woods for not a lot of money, these are the clubs for you.
