This was Sony's top line digicam a few years ago and its esy to see why. Solid Black Aluminum Chassis and body. 4.1 Megapixel CCD with an excellent HAD focusing system. Outstanding battery life from the NP-FM50 Camcorder Battery. This camera can take a licking and produce excellent digital pictures day-in and day-out. It is really a work-horse digicam that is built for the long term. If you are looking for a decent back-up or Ebay digicam, this camera fits the bill nicely. You can find one easily on Ebay in the $150-$175.00 rangein excellent condition that will easily giveyou 3-4 years of additional usage. The only negaitve is that it takes Memory Sticks and the camera is kind-of bulky and heavy whencompared to the latest generation of competing digicams. You can't go wrong with this camera as Sony engineered this one to last for a very long time. You can even add a Sony External Flash for even more flexibility and power.Read full review
This camera is actually a great starter camera which takes very nice pictures, even closeups in the macro mode. Outdoor pictures are even better than indoor pictures! The downside of this camera is movie shots are only about 30 seconds at a clip so I would not use this camera for video. Another downfall with this camera is it only accepts up to a 128mb memory card and will not accept anything larger. So if you like taking family pictures, outdoor pictures, (not fast moving sports pictures), if you'd like a good inexpensive camera to sell things on eBay with, then this would be a very good choice. I've used this model for a couple of years for this purpose myself & I had very good results with it.
I bought this as a first camera. I had no manual so I had to manually figure out all the adjustments and such. Since I never had a camera before, it took really great pictures. It takes videos too, but I didn't do such a good job because I was unfamiliar with the settings. I like that you can play the vids and pictures from the camera on a tv with the a/v output jack. My only complaint is I had to order a larger memory card, nobody seem to have memory cards that fit this camera exactly since It seems to be a slightly older camera than what's currently available. I would still recommend this camera, I quite happy with my purchase.
Excellent quality photographs Fairly easy to use, although not for a complete novice Would suggest buying a large memory stick (depends on the resolution you want) Has a fairly standard USB cable. I can use the same cable for my MP3 player and camera, which is useful GREAT close photographs You recharge the InfoLITHIUM M battery, so you don't burn through AA or AAA's like they are going out of fashion. Overall... I'd buy it again.
I have taken several shots with this camera in various kinds of lighting. From low light to very bright outdoor shots, this camera performs extremely well. It was in it's day, a top talent, and still is when compared to today's cameras that may cost a hundred dollars more. It operates very well as a point and shoot or if you desire to be in more control this camera is wonderful in various priority modes. Excellent placement of controls with a very intuitive menu system. I use the fine setting with +1 sharpness and get outstanding shots still today. Battery life is excellent as well. Movie mode by today's standards lacks a bit with limited resolution but certainly is easy to use for a quick movie. I think it is limited to 15 fps. Bottom line: shot in, shot out, this camera is very reliable with good metering and what I would say "bright colors".Read full review
