Bought several of these to upgrade older laptops that use IDE hard drives. Use any standard mSATA SSD with this adapter, and shorter size mSATA with a spacer (or good quality tape). Panasonic laptops often last much longer that other brands because they are designed to last. This adapter can give new life to an old Toughbook. Would have given 5 stars, but one arrived defective and seemed to be missing a component. (Seller made good and replaced it promptly.) However the others work fine and run noticeably faster than a conventional hard drive.

I returned the one I bought. The only piece in the box that worked was the power supply. The power cord wouldn't light the power supply. The adapter didn't show up on either Mac or PC. The Sata cable didn't spin a Sata drive. I had a Sabrent USB 3.0 that worked. I wanted another for USB 2.0. After sending this one back I bought a used Sabrent 2.0 converter. It works. This is worse than useless because if you rely on it you will write off good drives. Worse, you won't be able to recover data from dying drives.

Simply put, it is everything I need to make all of my hard drives (old and new) work with any/all of my computers. Don't waste money on simple USB hard drive adapters, when this can be had for the same money, and has a POWER SUPPLY and the goodies!

This unit works well for most newer IDE or SATA hard drives. For older hard drives, the unit does not provide sufficient current to allow them to power up correctly. However, the drivers load up and function well for lower power units. BHRR

Tried setting it up an a single cable with optical drive as secondary. Just seems to cause issues with detecting any secondary devices. Even when it's the only device on the cable my PII era bios pauses a bit trying to detect a secondary device. Ran a win 2k install on it and have had no issues with 16GB msata ssd.
