Obviously at this price this is not the best pickup you can buy, but great for the cost and very easy to use - I keep it in my guitar case just in case I have a problem with the internal pickup in my guitar, like a dead battery or other malfunction. It does lack a bit of the high end, so you will have to crank the highs to get the right EQ, but having done that it is easily worth the price. It was also sent very quickly! Thanks!

I saw a review of this pickup on the 'tubes. For the price it couldn't hurt to try one. I used it on my fiddle, didn't even tell the band I'd switched pickups. The surprise? They all thought my fiddle was clearer with more "real" fiddle sound. Ha!! And to be honest, I thought so, too. This rather larger, inexpensive, odd looking pickup with the attached cord actually is pretty good. Not that there weren't some issues. First, mine didn't want to stay on. Must have embedded some dirt or something on the little cup. Even cleaning it the piezo would fall off once the instrument started vibrating. I did have to use some putty to make it stay on - Loctite Mounting putty, works perfectly. Secondly, It's very sensitive to position. Which could be a con or pro, depending on your own take. The third thing, the cord, altho' very long is a bit of a pain. I know why it's there, and I'm sure others will appreciate the attached cord. But that wasn't going to work for me. I ended up getting a carpenter jack and wiring the pickup into that. That way I can use the same cable that goes to the mando, banjo or guitar. And, it cuts down on the long cable (cord?) hanging off the instrument. After that one small mod, I'm completely happy with the little PG-800 pickup. And quite surprised at how it sounds.Read full review

As most other buyers, I was skeptical of this inexpensive pickup. I must say I'm a believer now. Dead simple to hook up and plug in,and in moments you're playing electrified. And it reproduces the sound very honestly. One caveat: it may, no will, come unstuck from your guitar. Lick it and stick it didn't work for me very well. What has worked much better is putting a microscopic film of Vaseline on the suction cup. I've used this trick to hold my GPS to the dash of my car. Eventually this method will fail but the pickup has held on to the guitar for over two weeks now so I think it's an acceptable compromise.

Easy to use and priced right. This little stick on pickup really surprised me. It sounds good on guitar , violin and mandolin. It may not be as clear as a $300 pickup but it is well worth the price. When you use it I would recommend that the wood surface be clean and waxed for easy sticking and removal.

I bought this pickup after seeing a YouTube video by a Jazz violinist recommending it and demonstrating it (look for "My Violin Pick-Up Exploration").. As was said in the video, it produces sound quality better than a Fishman pickup that costs 10X as much. In fact, it produces better sound than a combined Fishman + Audio-Technica clip-on mic together, which costs 30-50x as much. That said, my pick-up lasted all of 1 hour and then gave up the ghost for no apparent reason. My violinist purchased one as well, and her pick-up is still going strong. A quick google search did not turn up any obvious infant mortality issues with this mic. I plan to replace the device, and I will update this review in a few months. It sticks just fine to my carbon-fiber cello, but not to my violinists wood violin. She places the mic under the tailpiece. On my wood cello, I purchased a bottle cork from Home Depot for $1, which I use to hold the mic between the tailpiece and body of that cello (see attached pics). I notice that if I just use the suction cup without the cork, the bass is not as good. Also, I found that the pickups do stick to some wooden instruments (2 thus far). For those (2) instruments, when removing the pickup, some very minor damage to the instrument finish occurred. It could be because we do not know how to properly break the vacuum seal. Nevertheless, we now place a post-it note between the pickup and the wooden instrument body. That works fine, and has not caused any change in sound quality or buzzing. No feedback, even with a speaker directly behind me (or monitor pointing at me). Reasonable tone quality which can be EQ'd nicely. I do recommend an inexpensive passive DI box with ground-lift to adapt this to an XLR input. And if you are connecting this to a violin or cello, I also recommend a portable 3-band EQ, as the mic is not flat. I would give it 5 stars if it had not died after 1 hour. I do think this was an aberration. But, I was so impressed with it, that I plan on buying a set of these for the ensemble. ----- Update I did order a set of 4 of these pickups, and this store also provided a free replacement for the original pickup. I have used 4 of the pickups several times now, and they have worked reliably. My violinist's pickup also continues working reliably. Given the great service, and quality of the device, I have changed my review to 5 stars.Read full review
