This Atheros AR9271 chipset wifi adapter is natively supported in older linux systems. Anymore many of the much more common Realtek chipset wifi adapters are natively supported too, so not as important as it used to be. You ever use linux, you understand have a native driver built into the kernel is lot nicer than having to compile one or try to use ndiswrapper. So I had no problem plugging it in and instantly working in Puppy Linux. However win10 didnt seem to find a driver for it. I looked online for Atheros driver. Newest was for win7. Tried it, didnt work. Then got a clue. Brought up win10 device manager. It showed it as unspecified device WNA1100. Googling that, translates to Netgear N150. There is a win10 driver for that. Unfortunately its 80mb. Really??? They do realize a whole download of latest Firefox web browser is less than 50mb??? And you do have to manually download and install it. Anyway I downloaded the Netgear super mega bloat driver and installed it, worked great. I still figure the part of it that win10 actually uses probably an inf file a few kb in size.... No idea what rest of it is supposed to do. Believe me, going to burn that sucker to cd, dont want to have to download it again, server I got it off of was very slow. Oh and shout out to any sellers of this item, some of us still have cdrom/dvdrom, so would been really happy to have the drivers on a mini cd included with the wifi adapter.` As to the actual usb wifi adapter. Its ok, seems to have bit more range than lower profile adapters. Gets bit warm but not super hot like couple usb wifi adapters I've had in past.Read full review

This wifi network adapter does not ship with any drivers, and was not a plug and play install for me. If you are not proficient with the Windows Device Manager and also configuring computer hardware settings, then you should stay far away from this WIFI Card. Additionally, you will need to have internet access in order to be able to install this WIFI adapter. After I received this device, I plugged it into my Windows 7 PC. Windows tried to install the device driver, but it failed to find a driver for this device and therefore Windows could not install it, thus leaving this WIFI adapter inoperable. To make sure the issue was not my computer, I tried the same thing on another Windows 7 PC that I own. Once again I ended up with the same result. After tinkering around with the Windows Device Manager, I still was unable to install a driver for this device. I then went online and looked for the chipset to this device. So after much Google searching I was able to determine that this WIFI Card uses a Realtek RTL8188EU chipset. So then after more Google searching I was finally able to find a driver for this device, download it, install it, and get this WIFI Adapter working. The WIFI adapter actually works pretty well. However, I found it very tedious to install after taking over an hour of screwing with Windows settings and doing Google searches to remedy this situation. So here is your warning.Read full review

works good, not super great. for the most part does its job. at times it seems to forget what it's doing but quickly remembers. perfect for desktops that only have USB 2 where a wireless network connection would be nice. d/ls movies and can youtube vids ok. Can't hardly go wrong for the price. don't expect it to be the best thing since sliced bread, but for $2 i'm not complaining. I work_on/fix a lot of desktops so they work really well for me in that regard.

I bought some WiFi adapters - and I confess the performance bypass my expectation: small, easy to install and the antenna offer you a much better performance; looking at the price, I definitely can say its one of the best deals.

I installed this without too much hassle. The only hassle was that there was no documentation or instructions on which driver to install, so I installed the wrong driver first. There are two drivers on the included mini-cd, one for RealTek, and another for MediaTek. It was the MediaTek version I needed to install, but because I was more familiar with the RealTek brand, I instinctively installed that one first and it didn't work. Otherwise it installed without a hitch, and I was able to use the control panel to connect to my wireless network at full bars and it's very fast. One caveat: My wireless router is in the same room with this receiver, so it would be expected to perform pretty well. I have not tried using it in another room or downstairs. Performance may vary.
