Notes
Includes the Bells of Dublin/Christmas Eve; God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; Skyline Jig; O the Holly She Bears a Berry; the Boar's Head, and more with special guests Elvis Costello, Rickie Lee Jones, Burgess Meredith and many others.
Ireland's world-class ambassadors the Chieftains seem determined to play with anyone who is anyone, regardless of genre. On The Bells of Dublin, they do an exceptional job of teaming up with the likes of rockers Jackson Browne and Elvis Costello, as well as songbirds Marianne Faithfull, Rickie Lee Jones, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, and Nanci Griffith. There are many resplendent performances here, the least of which is Costello and company's raucous "St. Stephen's Day Murders." Like a banquet of traditional Irish fare with some updating to accommodate individual guests, Bells is the kind of holiday record you don't want to end.
If you are a Chieftains fan, you would rate this an excellent. I like Irish music, but it's not my favorite Christmas theme.
Yet, I gave this a good. For something different for Christmas with some excellent vocals- including a song with Rickie Lee Jones, this would be a
great CD to take to a Christmas party.
It's a fun album too- you can tell the band was enjoying this recording session. It is an album that is guaranteed to make you smile and tap your
foot. And again, if you're an Irish buff- you will love it.
Fantastic Christmas and Holiday cheerful, light hearted folk music!Super value!
Love the old traditional Christmas songs that you don’t get to hear much anymore.
You’ll be so light hearted after you listen to this music!
This has been THE Christmas favorite with the entire family since it came out, and we listen to it year 'round. Each has his/her own favorite; mine is Burgess Meredith's soothing & mystical narrative When we lost ours, we had to get another ASAP!
