Zoot is in great form on this release. Recorded just a year or two before his death. A Jazz Master. I had heard Zoot with Al Cohn the following year in NYC and wanted to revisit his wonderful sound from that time. Well recorded with a supporting group that is really energized to be playing on this outing. Emily is a stand out...but all tracks are vintage Zoot...in a setting that exists to showcase his unique skills.

This is hands down my favorite Jazz CD of all Time. It is not fast and up-tempo, but it's always on the move, with a melodic sound and easy driving beat. Every track is something you could play to someone that doesn't listen to Jazz and they would have to sit back in their chair and close their eyes to imagine a far-away escape. I couldn't put in to words how enjoyable this CD is to listen to. It's sort of like the best romantic melodies of Charlie Parker recorded in a modern studio. If you have a high-end audio system and want to show it off, this is the CD to own. Crisp Bass, incredible Percussion (You'll love the Vibraphone), flowing piano and the most effortless saxophone performance you will ever hear! Zoot Sims is a master! 5 STARS
