I bought this book because I am going to get a Yorkie and wanted to research everything I could about them. This book tells you everything you need to know about the dog. The first couple chapters help you decide whether this is the right dog for you. They tell you the good and the bad. The book tells you everything you need to know about bringing the puppy home, what to look for in a good breeder, genetic problems Yorkies could have, how to groom properly...even how to put a bow in their hair. It answered all my questions. I've never had a puppy before. I'm usually a cat person. I also had no idea what I was doing but after reading and re-reading this book I feel very prepared. I know what to bring when I pick up my puppy and what to expect the first night I will have her home. This book also has a wonderful layout. You do not have to read it cover to cover. The table of contents is very detailed so if you just wanted to read about how to set up a proper crate for your puppy then you can just skip to it. I highly recommend this book. I'm so glad I bought it. If you're looking in to getting a dog, the "for dummies" book is excellent.Read full review
It was written with me in mind. We have a DORKIE (dachshund/yorkie) in our immediate family and according to the book....we are doing well with his upbringing. Of course, he is a smart little guy and quick to pick up on acceptable ideas. Next week, we will add a Yorkie female to the family , so I got the book to get a lot of positive direction for raising her. It has a lot of humor, faux pas that occur to the smartest of owners, and most of all, love, keeping steady house rules, and taking walks are very important. Love your pup and watch for any health problems that might suddenly appear and get your baby to the Vet. The Yorkshires are very loving and good dogs, faithful, and I have to remember my husband and I are the ALPHA Leaders! Glad I have it and have read most of it.

After losing my chihuahua who was almost 13 yrs. old last year, I decided not to get another dog, as it was too stressful when you lose them. (I had lost a cocker spaniel 10 yrs ago) Now I am so lonley I decided to adopt a yorkie from a rescue group and need all the help I can get, as I know from my daughter's yorkie, they are a totally different breeed!!!! I read this book, and was amazed at what and how much it could teach me. I then re-read it, and used a yellow highlighter and little post it's to mark critical issues & pages for easy reference in the near future. All I can say is never group all dog breeds together - they are all individual. My previous experience with my cocker spaniel and chihuahua could have been so much easier had I known about this series of books before I brought them home. I realized just how much of a "dummie" I was when it can to yorkies, and am now well prepared to welcome my new yorkie into my life and give her a well informed "forever momma"! I strongly urge anyone who is even thinking of getting ANY breed of dog to look into this series of books. I also urge them to think about rescuing a dog instead of purchasing a puppy - there are so many "throw away's" out there. It is very rewarding for both you and the dog.Read full review
Definitely enjoying reading this book and learning about our Yorkie. There could possibly be more practical questions, but so far it is coming in handy.
