This is the story of Bobby Murcer, who was a hero of mine when I was growing in on Long Island in the late 60's and early 70's. It is about his time with the Yankees, his battle with a brain tumor, and his walk with Christ. My Father died on June 3rd, 1991 after and long battle with a grade 4 brain tumor and it was the hardest thing in the world for me to watch. Just knowing that, gave me an insight on to what Mr Murcer and his family have, and are going through. His courage and optimism shine through on almost every page. His wife, Kay, offers her perspective from time to time, throughout the book. They have spent almost their entire life together and they make a great team. The book is filled with anecdotes of his time spent with the Yankees and to a lesser extent, his time with the Giants and the Cubs. This is the reason I wanted to read it, along with the knowledge that one of my childhood heros was dying. Well, I assumed he was dying, judging from my own life's experiences, but Bobby Murcer doesn't seem to know he is dying. Maybe, that is from walking with Christ and know there is eternal life waiting for him, or perhaps, just his competitive fires burning? I guess you would just have to read the book and determine that for yourself. I found the book to be an easy read and would highly recomend it to any Yankee fan, baseball fan, Red Sox fan, ...Heck, I even recommend it to an atheist to read. I hope that helps anyone who may be on the fence, one way or the other about reading this book.Read full review
