The S 70xs is a good workhorse piano/synth that is almost a workstation, but not quite. If you're not familiar with the Yamaha operating system you may have quite a learning curve. As I've owned a number of Yamaha Motif series instruments I get most, but not all, of the interface. A synth isn't worth anything if you have to read the manual to find out how to turn the bloody thing on. There are some beautiful piano sounds, especially the S6 Yamaha grand variations. As well all the standard sounds you get a few hundred sounds borrowed from the Motif XS Synth. One downside is that the display is LED and it's terribly small. It produces a lot of information, but you need your magnifying glasses to see what patch you're on. This does not make programming easy as the interface is relatively complex and the display is inadequately small. Overall it is a very good, solidly built instrument that has enough sounds to be the one board you need if you can't bring two to a gig.Read full review
Bought this for our church worship team as a replacement for a different brand of keyboard. Durability, portability, quality of samples, and ability to accept and record flash audio were the primary criteria, and the S70 delivers on all counts. The sounds are expressive and rich, and the action (keys) inspires confidence that this is a quality 'board. Biggest downside that I can see is - as mentioned elsewhere - the tiny screen. It's only marginally readable when performing, particularly when you're standing. My 10-year-old S90's display is more informative! If they're that cramped for space, then maybe build in an iPhone holder so I can plug in and use that as an editor. Likewise, it's odd that the overall width of this shorter scale would come in a package that's the same size as my 88 key S90, which puts its pitch and mod wheel in the upper left. Enough whining, though; if my ample experience with Yamaha gear is any indication this will be a well-loved keyboard for years down the road. We bought it to play, and have every reason to expect to for a long while.Read full review
An exceptional 76 note master keyboard. The control surface layout is unique with all master controls clustered close above the keybed. The key action is a touch heavy but smooth and has a realistic acoustic feel. The onboard sounds are what you'd expect from the newer Yamaha offerings and I'm particularly fond of the Acoustic Pianos. The build quality, like all Yamaha keyboards is rock solid. The only major drawback is the weight. Should you need to move the S70, it is fairly awkward. For my home master, it was a great choice.

missing a tone assigement knob; other than that the product performs well. Bought it because the price was right. needed a keyboard with good piano actin, light weight, and great sound. A negative part of the keyboard is the inability to change the tempo.
