I am currently using it for 2-channel music listening and it works great. Sound quality is top notch. Feature set is good for an older receiver and runs cooler than some other av receivers. Network functions include pandora, rhapsity, DLNA, and internet radio. USB is on board and can play back MP3 320kbps, WMA, FLAC 16/44-24/96, and others. The audio formats mentioned also applies to DLNA streaming. The network control app on ios and android is awesome. What i've noticed is certain functions of the app is av receiver dependent. One example is the lack of a on screen remote control in the app. I've owned the Yamaha RX V673 and it had that option in the app. Either that or new updates to the application tok that function out. I can't verify this because I no longer have the V673. Auto room calibration is handled by YPAO single or multipoint setup system. Works great and does not modify EQ curves to aggresively. The phase, levels, and distance are near perfect. The Yamaha RX A1010 has full 7.1-channel pre-outs for use with external power amps. I've tested the front L/R preouts with a Crown XLS2000 pro amplifier. The RX A1010 can fully drive the crown xls2000 to full power with a little more headroom to spare. The only downside to this and newer Yamaha receivers is no option to turn off the internal amplifiers when external amps are used. Overal a great receiver that will last me a long time. I've always had great luck with Yamaha AVRs.Read full review

I bought this to replace an Onkyo ht-809 included with the Onkyo ht-9300HX home theater in a box system. This receiver works. Period. Great sound, easy to use on screen display and a logically designed remote. It has a display I can read across the room so I can actually use the remote! It also has on screen display for many of the options. Two noteworthy items are the preamp outputs for the 7.x speakers so you can hook your own amp up if you desire, and the legacy support for devices with analog output for 5.1 sound like my old Sony DVD Jukebox. I bought this after seeing it rated #3 in 2011 receivers. So why not buy #1 or #2? Simply the cost. This was two dollars and eighty censt shipped and the others were still over six bucks. Go listen for yourself and play with the features. It just might work as well for you as it does for me. My old Onkyo is now a 7.1 stereo system in my basement.Read full review
I've always been impressed by Yamaha products and this receiver is no exception. It's a 7.2 channel receiver that packs an insane amount of features into a modest price. Before I made the purchase, I called Yamaha's customer service guys and asked them a few questions and they were able to answer everything for me. I got right to a person who spoke English and they knew their products (and actually said they had a full lab for testing stuff). So I bought the receiver and hooked it up to my 3D TV setup, along with my Wii (component), X-box 360 (HDMI), DirecTV DVR (HDMI), Yamaha YDS-12 iPod dock and 3D Blu-ray player (HDMI). It was easy to install and I still have plenty of HDMI inputs left for future expansion. I ran the YPAO auto setup and it was over before I came back from getting a snack in the kitchen. It properly detected all of my 7.2 speakers and everything appears to be working as intended. I must say that I really love the onscreen GUI menu. It's an animated display that overlays on top of whatever I'm watching, including the 3D content from DirecTV and my BD player. I wanted a receiver with a powered Zone 2 so I could run a pair of speakers on my porch and this receiver handles that task no problem. Setup was easy, I just followed the PDF owner's manual that came in the box. I haven't tried the HDMI Audio Return Channel yet, but I do plan on using it in the future.Read full review
I purchased the Yamaha RX-V667 to replace an older RCA receiver that finally gave up the ghost. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! The sound out of this unit mimics that of much higher priced units I've heard. Very crisp, Clear high tones, EXCELLENT surround effects, and great bass sound reproduction. The online GUI is very easy to navigate and the YBAO room setup makes setting the individual speakers a breeze. The unit has plenty of HDMI ports for my system making a nice clean cable setup behind the receiver. I am an audiophile and just can't get enough of good sound. I would recommend the Yamaha RX-V667 to anyone looking for a GREAT midrange receiver with plenty of power to get the job done.
I bought this unit to replace my JVC receiver, which wasn't 3D acceptable or high speed HDMI. On screen prompts makes set-up easy. Many bells and whistles to play with to make it YOUR sound. Several HDMI inputs allows you to connect a bunch of your toys, upscaleing composite, DVD and VHS is a great feature. Attach the optional Yamaha YDS11 dock and play your ipod/ipad right through your entertainment system. Lots of power and the clarity of sounds is wonderful. I am extremely happy with my purchase.
