This third release in the unique series of Oddworld adventure games adds a new dimension as it finds comes to a new platform. The fully-3D Xbox rendition of the surrealistic Oddworld is populated by many strange creatures and contraptions, some familiar to veterans of earlier games and some never seen before. While previous protagonist Abe is a major character in the game, he's joined by the aqua-oriented, high-velocity wheelchair pilot Munch in a struggle against the sadistically scientific Vykkers and the greedy corporate Glukkons. Though they don't always get along, the duo must work together as a team to overcome many obstacles that neither character could conquer on his own.<br><br>In this escapade, the hero Munch can use a special power to take control of mechanical devices, while the more athletically inclined Abe has the ability to possess different creatures that the two meet along the way. Though Munch rides in his wheelchair as the pair travels cross-country, he is an excellent swimmer and excels when the adventure leads to a body of water. While players can enjoy this title for its challenging missions and the action of its gameplay, the game is designed with a level of reticulated detail intended to create a dynamic, living world full of quirky events and subtle nuances, making thorough exploration and free-form interaction a worthy experience in its own right.

I like that the game begins with a ‘training’ area that shows you how to use the controls to jump, run, and navigate. You begin with Abe, and learn how Mudokon’s collect spooces, chant and open doors. These skills are much needed later on when you retrieve Munch from the Vykkers Labs; you will collect fuzzles by freeing them from their laboratory cages (this is awesomely entertaining, the fuzzles are soo cute). Don't skip this! They give you Quarma and that is essential in this game! Bad Quarma= weird twists at the end of the game! Like another reviewer said "Overall bad Quarma throughout the game may end up resulting in a different ending than what you'd get with a better Quarma." Each level is like a whole new world, and everything changes based on your Quarma rating.. so pay ... Each level is like a whole new world, and everything changes based on your Quarma rating.. so pay attention! I found the controls easy to use, but there is a learning curve to remembering which buttons do things specifically for Abe, and what buttons do things just for Munch. For example, the B button allows Abe to command his Mudokon friends to do work for him. Munch can use his sonar by pulling the left trigger, and Abe can chant by pulling the left trigger. You can move the camera around by using the directional pad, and center it with the white button. This is especially useful in the Fluoride Tanks level where it is difficult to see around corners and over walls. Controlling the movement of the characters is done with the left analog stick allowing for a smooth, responsive feel to what you have your characters do. The camera can be rotated using the d-pad, allowing you to fully appreciate the lush environments in the game. Early on some people deemed this game childish, or the ‘Mario’ of xbox games. But neither of these ideas is correct. The game has excellent lighting, and retains a ‘dark’ movie like feel throughout the game, (think Dark City). Gameplay is seamless with short loading screens between levels. Each level is extensive, taking 10-20 minutes to clear. The graphics are consistent, and the pre-game movies are worth a second look, just for the clarity of the graphics. Overall, the graphics are nice, but they're not the main strength of the game. I found that the noises associated with doing things, such as jumping, swimming, gathering spooces, etc, were very impressive, and unique. When enemies chase you, there is defining, faster-paced music which escalates the situation. Personally, I would have enjoyed more in-game music tracks, as it seemed to get a little quiet for my tastes at times. However, this allowed you to hear every detail of what was going on. You’ll want to explore the “Gamespeak” yourself, to learn what Abe and Munch say to their companions. And of course, the important functions of farting and belching are available as well; just hold the X button. There are several ‘machines’ used throughout the game-- my favorite being the “Snoozer”, which Munch uses by remote control. It puts the bad guys to sleep and also has a cannon type of gun underneath it to blast it’s way around. There are some other fun machines, but I don’t want to spoil them all for you. Look forward to possessing your enemies, fighting sligs, and saving egg crates. All in all, Oddworld is an enjoyable game. Not too stressful or repetitive, but with a strong plot and graphics that'll satisfy most. Replay value is medium, and it crosses enough genre lines to make it a good game for a lot of different gamers.

Works On Original Xbox. Several Glitches On Xbox 360
It's been several years since I bought the original Xbox. The first game I bought was Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. At the time it had some of the best graphics. The gameplay was great and the humor in the story kept you laughing. A few years later I upgraded to an Xbox 360. They weren't too concerned about backwards compatibility at the time. Oddworld didn't work on the new system. It traded in my Xbox to help with some of the cost of my 360. Most of my games were traded in also since they didn't work any more. I kept up with the backwards compatibility list since new titles were being added on a regular basis. One day I noticed that Oddworld was added. I jumped at the chance and bought again. It was at a reasonable price also. I put in the game and was ready to start having fun ... It's been several years since I bought the original Xbox. There was only background music. Was kind of upset because most of the fun was from hearing Abe and Munch issue commands to other characters. At first I thought I had a defective disk. Did some research on the internet. Found a site that told about these type of things. When Microsoft released the compatibility patch it didn't come without flaws. All 360 users had this problem with the game. So to make a long story short. If you own an original XBox buy this game. For all us 360 users wanting a little bit of nostalgia, would definately pass.

My whole family loves this game. Even my 4 year old son! He loves to watch us play it and he begs to play it himself. It is challenging, but you can still pass levels. It isn't one of those games that if you get stuck on a level you stop playing it or use cheats! You can complete each level, but it is still challenging. It takes skills, thought, and problem solving to get through each level. It is fun and the graphics and sound are wonderful. It has a great story line. It is one of those "underdog" stories. Not graphic and not a lot of shooting or gruesome killing. Great fun and makes you laugh too. Very creative story and characters. Anyone will enjoy this game.My whole family loves this game.
