This is a nice introduction to XTC for the interested listener. Most of the major hits are here but there's nothing rare or unusual about the collection. Not to mention, you won't get anything from Apple Venus or Wasp Star. If you become addicted to XTC's particular brand of pop, rock and innovation, then the individual albums are essential listening. I am particular to the middle through late period albums as I prefer the more mature songwriting of Partridge and Moulding rather than the raw exuberance of the early years. English Settlement is a nice transition album if you want to get a feel of both early and later period XTC in one fell swoop. Otherwise, grab Skylarking if you must have the one "essential" album.
Good songs but the printed track listing on the back cover is false and misleading! The order of songs on the CD does not play according to the list! This is the only album I've ever found in my life that does this. Still a good album anyway, though!

This is a great collection of XTC tunes that has somehow managed to turn off dedicated fans (missing their favorite tracks) and non-fans (too eclectic). I guess they put this together to appeal to me because this is one of my favorites. I love the selection and watching the transition from new wave punk to beach boys pop. Seriously, if Brian Wilson joined a punk band it would sound like XTC. Do I recommend this album? Sure. You will probably hate me for it but what do I care? 5 Stars.
excellent collection!
