Wright and McGill Dragon Fly Reel 3/4 Wt: Can't beat the price, although the reel has a regular drag wheel /system it seems to be mainly effective within a limited 1/2"+ range. General good quality workmanship, but I had to contact W&M Co. for instructions on flipping the retrieval system from left to right (1 remove spool. 2 Remove the round wire Retainment clip (a pointed awl worked for me). 3 Remove internal 1-way bearing: flip it and replace bearing, clip, spool, then get to fishin! ). No regrets, and I'm looking forward to breaking it in with my new 10.5' 3 wt nymph rod. -keep it tight Folks!

I am RH retrieve. It is easy enough to change out the clutch. However, the spool will not lock into place. I tried holding the release pin until the spool is all the way seated, then releasing it, as well as trying to slide the spool on until it "clicks" locked. No luck either way. I thought of the light spool as primarily a line holding mechanism. It is not worth it.

Used this reel on a fly fishing trip for Grayling. Some of the largest I have caught and this reel held up to the pressure. Water was fast in places and the fish were running with the stream to make it even more of a test for this reel. In two days I landed and released over 300 fish and this reel worked outstanding. Will be getting another one. Alaska is the place to test equipment.....

This is the second Wright and McGill Dragonfly that I have added to my arsenal. I previously purchased a 5/6 reel and was so impressed and satisfied that I had to buy a 3/4 size reel. The construction quality, materials and feel are on a par with reels costing much, much more. I found out after buying the first reel, that the gray finish is actually hard anodize. That was not mentioned anywhere in any ads or information I had seen before buying. Not only attractive, I expect the finish to be more durable than other reels at any price. The re-machined and gold anodized spokes of the spool are a detail that makes this a really nice looking item. Some have mentioned that they did not like the clicking detent. The detent assembly is easily removed with a screwdriver. So easy that I do not consider that a negative. If you want it, leave it. If not, unscrew it and save it. Line capacity can be an issue with the large arbor. I put 80 yards of 20# Dacron and 85 feet of # 5 fly line on the spool with absolutely no clearance problem. I am now planning on buying a 7/8 Dragonfly to augment the collection.Read full review
