The DVD is like the World War II:War in the Pacific. It's set with Patrick O'neal as the main commentator, and He does a fine job adding more depth and drama to the series. There is a brief comparision of the War covering both fronts and then the European War starts from the Blitz first used by Germany and the Battle of Britian. The action swings to the North African conflict and then securing the rest of the battles fought against Germany's "Desert Fox", Rommel. With ousting the Italians from the War, the Allies turned their sights on securring Italy. When fighting gets bogged down, a plan to swing up to Anzio and make a run for Rome and the rest of the Allies make a break through the Guestoff line at Casino fails, a long drawn out affair starts. The Germans counterattack at Anzio and hold the Allies to a 5 mile perimeter there and it becomes nearly impossible to get around Casino and everything settles in for a long winter in 1944. Break out eventually happens in the spring. At the same time the Allies are making plans to make it a two front war because of the pressure that Stalin is putting on the U.S.A. and Great Britian. This is the war that will come at Normandy on the 6th of June. The race to Germany has begun with the daylight bombing raids by the Americans in the heart of Germany as well as the bombing of the areas around Normandy. After the attack on D-Day June 6th, the linking of the Paratroopers and the Landing Forces gives the Allies a good strong foot hold in France. Then begans the mopping up through the French villages and the hedge rows as well. Finally the break out comes and the race to the Rhine. When things seem to finally be settling down and the Allies began to take a break and bring up fresh forces and releave a lot of the top crack troops for the Americans, Hitler springs a counterattack in the Ardennes and thus begins the Battle of the Bulge. After a long two weeks and high casualties to the Americans, things get back under control and then the race for the Rhine and into Germany itself takes place. This has good coverage of all the major campaigns in the European War and shows much moer detail and also a littler better look from both sides of the War. It is an excellant documentary about World War Two in Europe and someone who is a history buff, a veteran of any war, or anyone wanting to know how that generation kept freedom for us today. It is a perfect balance for the series World War II: War in the Pacific.Read full review
