I purchased a used R1 Commander standard model with the mil spec grip safety. I wasn't unbearable but I wanted a little less bite to the web of my hand and I didn't want to alter my frame for a custom fit safety. The Wilson Combat safety was the way to go. It looks fine to me and more importantly, it made the pistol absolutely comfortable to shoot. Just remeber you will need a Commander style hammer to use this safety and you will need to "fit" the trigger bar engagement area of the grip safety. Just go slow. This piece made an awesome shooting pistol even more enjoyable. Can't go wrong with WC.

It had to be extensively modified to make it work, including welding additional material onto the trigger block arm. It was too wide to fit into a standard Kimber receiver.

Realizing not all parts for 1911's are "drop in", this beavertail did require the frame to be modified on my older Colt Gold Cup National Match. The beavertail itself also had to be ground down to match the frame for a smooth finish when gripped. However, if you feel you have the capabilities, it turns out quite nice.Wilson Combat makes "good stuff".

Using my electronic calipers it took literally 5 minutes to fit this part, which is a testimony of how close to tolerances Colt makes their 1911's and the close tolerances Wilson makes their parts. Fantastic. Looks good, fits very well, function checked and ready for work.

However not a “drop in part” for a kimber pro carry. Should have done my research.
