George Carlin is the consummate thinkers comedian, he takes everyday nomenclature, situations, idioms, political correctness, names, surnames, race, religion, sex, oddities, weird observations, crime, deviants, bodily functions, sores, scabs, lice, animal kingdom, Presidents, war, laughter, snot, bad words, the FCC, the IRS, the FBI, the CIA, the boredom of golf, homelessness, hunger, world peace, sports, sallaries, corporate bull shit, communists, capitalists, silly caucasian observations, farting, etc. and makes it all histerically funny. George Carlin has cornered the market on his humorous observations. With this purchase I now have all of his books. My experience with E-Bay thus far has been very rewarding, and thanks for your integration of SKYPE. Signed, BookSmartCharlie!
I am a huge fan of George and his material both the written and onstage comedy. However I gotta say this book did not surpass his previous two, which I believe were very funny and raw- two trademarks that made him stand out through out the 70's 80's and 90's. SOme of the stuff you find in this book is without a doubt funny, but I just think it was somehow leftover material from his previous work. IM not saying dont buy- buut just dont suprised if they are not as funny as his previous work. His one-liners I believe are sometimes his greatest work, gold by that very definition, IN when will jesus bring the pork chops I think he tries very hard to target certain groups and the laugh is at most sometimes just a chuckle but Im used to breaking out in extreme laughther, no such thing here.
Mark Twain said, "The secret source of humor itself is not joy, but sorrow," and George Carlin, in his inimitable fashion, demonstrates Twain's point by exploring where trouble comes from and why the world is such a lousy place. While most humorists try to skewer with ice-pick wit, Carlin uses a meat ax. Using his straight-forward style, Carlin guides his readers through a murky world of language that is a much worse joke than anything he could conjure. His opening verbal slavo is worth the price of the entire book. Carlin writes about insurrections, stupidities, political crises, civil disturbances, and other human folly because it's fun. Hilarious from start to finish, Carlin's literary genius drips from every page. While his outrageous, irreverent humor is not for the faint of heart, it is meat for the free of mind.Read full review
The offbeat, brilliant mind of George Carlin shines through. If you like getting to the basics of language and human thought then this one is for you. He had a way of telling a story, that when finished you are saying to yourself, "I knew that, but he says it funnier". I am passing this book on to others so that they too can get a laugh and think a little deeper.
It’s a good make ya feel happy book. Needed some laughter in my life!
