Kristen Bell (Heroes) is Beth Harper, a successful art curator at the Guggenheim, only problem is she has been alone since she broke up with her boy friend a year earlier. When her younger sister (Alexis Dziena) announces she is getting married in two days in Rome she heads off to be her maid of honor. While in Rome she meets Nick Beamon (Josh Duhamel), the best man. After the reception Beth has a bit too much to drink and picks up four coins from a wishing well. When she gets home she finds that she is suddenly very popular, especially with four men played by Danny DeVito, Jon Heder, Will Arnett and Dax Shepard. These were the men who tossed in the four coins she picked up from the fountain. From there the movie goes on to see Beth being chased all over New York by these love struck men, and she is also falling for Nick who happens to live in New York as well. The movie is fun to watch and at times funny but it does get a bit annoying to have the four strangers who are chasing beth getting in the way of the scenes she is in. I would suggest renting this movie instead of buying it.Read full review
I saw this movie in the theater and hated it, and I wrote a few scathing internet reviews. Seeing it on Blu-Ray in the comfort in my own home was a way different experience. In the theater I was expecting some romantic masterpiece, and wasn't comfortable with the four clownish suitors . While "When In Rome" has it's scarce truly romantic moments and even fewer genuinely funny moments, it has a heart and sincerity. The movie is not plodding nor boring, but it is corny and syrupy, and would have been better without the four boyfriend-stalkers and better with just Josh and Kristen Bell, but there are times when you say a happy ending justifies a corny plot. if you are a romantic or just like girly movies then this is a movie that you'd enjoy! Kristen Bell does a very good job acting and appearing to be in love with Josh Duhamel. She is very good with the looks, facial expressions and body language to portray her characters falling in love with the best man at her sisters wedding. Josh is convincing as well as he chases the girl and has to contend with a variety of other men all wooing for this beautiful girls love and attention. I like the chemistry that these two actors had with one another. it was convincing to me that they were falling in love as they struggled through one trial after another on their venture to prove their love one for the other. This is just a fun movie to watch. It is entertaining and believable. Plus, lets face it, they are both eye candy and easy to watch! ; )Read full review
