Fast, silent, realiable. Only a couple of small issues. The usb connector on the hard drive almost didn't fit right, I had to force it more than you would expect. It occupies less space on the desk because it's larger vertically, but for that it's easier to accidently knock it down. Since it's a disk drive, I'd prefer it to be a 'horizontal' design. Anyway, if you are careful it's a very good usb external hard drive, maybe the best for the price.

This is my second MyBook. This one has a problem because of the USB 3.0 slot in the back of the device. It doesn't hold the cable very well; the cable slips out very easily. My first Book had a different slot (port?) and worked better. Other than this, I like it very much. I would give it 5 starts but doesn't seem right considering this design flaw.

This is the second unit of Western Digital My Book 3TB I have bought only because I needed its parts to repair the previous one bought to back up my computer, t failed and I lost access to my data. The good news is that I fixed the failed unit and it is working now. I am looking for a more reliable backup solution now.

I'm sure this is a great back up product, but it is not compatible with Microsoft back up. I have not been able to perform even one back up, as it always stalls at the same completion percentage. It then gives an error message. I have re-formatted, and still get the same results. I would not have purchased had I known of this problem.

PLEASE be aware that the data that is written to this disk drive is encrypted!!!! I have used these products for years and it wasn't until I had a recent failure that I discovered that the data can not be read normally on the drive due to the encryption done by a PDB board that acts as the interface to power and the USB port. I had almost 3TBs of critical data that would have been lost except that I finally found a program that was able to recover the "lost" partition of the drive and I had to buy an external drive caddy once I removed the drive from the My Book enclosure to be able to slowly recover my data and transfer it to another drive. I really like WD drives, but these external My Book products can mean that you either lose all your data when that PDB board fails, or that you have to pay someone to restore/recover your data. In my case, I finally got all my data back but it cost me money for the SW and caddy, as well as lots of time and stress. So, be careful and I hope you never go through what I just did with a failed My Book. BTW, I had two fail with a month, so that isn't good odds!!Read full review
