This is simply put the best media player ever made. It is simple enough for even a moron like me to use without instructions and it's virtually bullet proof. Doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary and fancy bull**** options. It's very basic but still plays just about every format available except for the newest HEVC 265 format. Even the successor to this model wasn't as good. I have had these for prolly ten years now and have bought them for a bunch of my friends (including this one). Do yourself a favor and buy one of these. Do NOT buy the junk CHINESE stuff that they're selling, no matter how much fancy stuff they offer you. You do NOT need those features. ALL you need is something that will play everything you throw at it and this one does it with aplomb. Super, highly recommended. I have two sitting in my house right now that I use. I bought this for my older tv that has colorstream inputs at 1080i. Roku, firestick, chromcast don't support 1080i resolution. I got this and had to dig around on forums to find links to firmware updates, since the auto update feature is no longer supported by western digital. After updating, it will work with the iphone app that acts as a remote control. Youtube and a few other features are no longer supported. Netflix works and I can watch any downloaded content on my home network - that's good enough for me. Makes the old tv useful again.

Bought this item to use as 1 product of others I'll need to shut down the satellite service we now have. I consider this item inexpensive to purchase and it was refurbished, which I am not opposed to on certain items (NOT all items). This unit is very small (took me back at first glance). Should fit just about anywhere. Excellent performance for what it's intended to do. Just a short lag startup time to get it going. Three different types of hookups available for different types of TV's. Haven't tried the USB ports (2 of them) yet. Not much to the thing and this is good (not much to confuse you). Unfortunately, most of the stuff I'd want to watch are not full length here - just snippets of 1 to 10 minutes long. Like watching shameless trailers. Those that do run full on (Netflix, Pandora, etc) look and sound great. I only have 1.5 Mbs service on fiber optical, but streaming 1080P is no problem unless something else is utilizing the bandwidth such as a laptop. Reducing down to 720P free's things up a bit from that dilemma, but there's no immediate button for this. Must be done in setup as far a I can tell. Love the Flingo addition to it's listings and that one's free. Unhappy with the lack of adding in alot of different internet apps, but will do the basic stuff rather nicely. I needed a blue-ray player to upgrade my system and purchased one with internet capabilities. That appliance works so well and has many, numerous apps to download that it replaced this unit as my main TV viewing appliance, but I plan on still using the WD for those shows (like Flingo) that I can't get on the new BD. Buy this if budget is low for such items and demands for appliance is realized to be of basic (movies, vids, music) needs. I'd recommend it.Read full review
Small size, simple to use, small remote. Does pretty much what it is advertised to do. Plays all the files I have, mp3, mp4, avi, etc. etc. Although I place this in the good area some could consider the simplistic software a negative. It's not really "powerful" software. All movies have played flawlessly, and it's nice that it remembers where you stopped watching a movie so you can restart where you left off if you have to leave and come back later. Internet connection is good. Setup was effortless. It takes a while to read my attached disk drive but it's not a slug. Nice to have two USB ports. I have had critical errors where it has to restart but only a few times. Not severe enough to return it. As Media streamers go this unit is solid, simple and good, kind of a middle of the road unit at a nice price.Read full review
I bought the WD TV Live Plus mainly to stream videos from my computer to my TV. I picked this model because it has Netflix, which the earlier model does not. It was a refurbished unit but appears like new and the price was right. It is quite slow to start up but is responsive after that. I have played several videos from an attached storage device and the performance has been excellent. Ethernet connections will occasionally drop out however, but I have not determined whether this is an issue with this unit or my network. It appears to do a lot more than I expected but I have yet to explore all of the features.
