If you have ever wanted to be an armchair admiral this game gives you that chance. It is a massive World War II pacific theater simulation.Everything you can think of as far as ships, planes, ground units etc....has been included in this game. It even goes into the what if possibilites such as proto type (jets and late war piston engine) aircraft and battles that could have been..such as the invasion of Japan. The game takes patience since it covers the war one day at a time over the entire pacific. It is not for the faint of heart or gamer that wants a shoot em up. Strategy and Logistics are the rule here. It is not just warships you command but also the merchant shipping which bring you your resources. If you decide wrong thousands of men will be sent to their grave. If you decide correctly a great victory will be yours for the moment. Can you as the Japanese hold off the production might of the U.S. and its allies. Can the U.S. and its allies survive the mighty onslaught of the formidable Japanese navy. This game is the closest you will get to playing the role of Admiral Halsey, Admiral Yamamoto or General MacArthur. World War II in the Pacific was a brutal affair on both sea and land and air. From far reaching naval battles which include both task force and ship to ship encounters and submarine warfare,to Landing your troops on the beaches of the far flung Pacific islands. The game has a pretty tough learning curve...but through trial and error and practice you will get the hang it. The only other game that I can think of that is close to this was KOEI's..Pacific Theater of Operations from a few years back. It was a Nintendo and Playstation affair not really making it to the PC except in a small run. This game overides KOEI's valiant effort by making it a more detailed and more realistic version out of that period in history. The only critical note for me...it would have been nice to have added a little more animation to the graphics. These days alot can be done to give a game some graphic..umph to make you think you are there and make it visually more exciting. They could have used waterline series models to represent the ships. Same goes for the aircraft and land battles. That said though it is a great game!Read full review
