An excellent family film, a bit of golf, but in truth, it is more about class struggle in An elite world. Though it is set in Victorian times it seems to be becoming more relevant today with the onset of such vast income Inequality. A true and intriguing story, well worth the watch!

I love this movie. It's one of those one can watch over and over again. It's on golf channel all the time, but with commercials, and I just read the book, so I wanted to have a copy. All the actors are perfect for their roles. I was impressed with how all the facts were represented and incorporated into an entertaining movie. A hard-to-believe-it's-true-but-it-is story of two of golf's greatest ever spanning two different generations and how their worlds intertwined over 10 years or so. I walked away loving, and really respecting, both Vardon and Ouimet. Both the book and the movie provide insight into golf's beginnings as a "gentleman's game" where professionals were looked down on. A sidenote: interesting to ponder how differently Vardon's infidelity was treated (it's not in the movie) compared to the hypocrisy of today's media. My, how times have changed! But you're a fan of golf, you'll be a fan of this movie.Read full review
...yet it is. This is the story of a young man who aspires to be the best in a game that one of his “station” and background shouldn’t even be playing. This is the stuff that made Horatio Alger a very popular author - except it’s not fiction.

The Greatest Game Ever Played is a movie which my husband ( a golfer ) and I ( non golfer ) have watched many times. It is one of those heart - warming , inspirational stories that makes one feel good about life and people. Our 13 year old grandson is a young golfer just learning the techniques of the game. But golf is more than a sport, it is an ongoing lesson in morality and good sportsmanship . This movie portrays those ideals throughout. We purchased the DVD for our grandson. As a true story of a great golfer who triumphed against many odds, it teaches perseverance. While the life-long friendship which develops between Francis Ouimet and his caddie , Eddie Lowery , is a life lesson to be admired. A wonderful film to be enjoyed by any golfer and a family friendly story to share with loved ones , we recommend it wholeheartedly .Read full review
A dramatization of the remarkable 1913 US Open involving the young amateur Francis Oimet, Harry Varden, and what the golf world looked like back then. 5 stars.
