This was by far the worst Jance book I've read. I felt the protagonist, Ali, was not believable. It was hard to connect emotionally with Ali when she did so many things that made no sense in the context of her history and character. It reminded me of one of those scary movies where you just want to shake people when they do something so totally stupid! For me, there just wasn't enough of Ali to empathize with as she went from doing one unbelievable or foolish thing to another. The plot felt forced and somewhat ridiculous. (Sumo sudoku?) I just couldn't get into this book. Certainly it was NOT hard to put down! I would suggest her J.P. Beaumont series instead--those are good reads with a flawed protagonist who is believable and, in his own way, lovable!
Jance weaves a tale of adultry and murder into a fast moving mystery that has a few unexpected turns. A good book that will entertain.
JA Jance is always enthralling and exciting. I love listening and reading her books. This one is no exception
