The film has the aspect of a time before a storm. The female swim club in the 1930's were leading lives of privilege and relative security only to have their world collapse with Hitler's demonic hatred of Jews. This film stands in testimony. H. Belkin

Well done. Principal characters are not only superb athletes but otherwise very accomplished. The atmosphere of antisemitism in Austria was palpable and scary. Refusal of some of these athletes to participate in the Olympics in Berlin was not only admirable it was brave. This should be watched by both historians and the general public to better understand what happens in an atmosphere of hate.

A review of Jewish athletic teams, with focus on wome's Austrian swim team from the 1920's and 1930's. The review combines historical aspects and very poignant personal stories from the time of nascent antisemitism anti-semitism through the virulent version which accompanied the annexation by the Nazis: an event enthusiastically welcomed and popular with the Austrians. But the personal stories and recollections of the participants - in their eightikes and nineties at the time of the filming - trump all!
One becomes engaged with the characters and anxious to hear their stories
