Very good product. A little hard to control without gliding a bit off course, but well worth the convenience it gives you. Carry it in your briefcase and scan any document, then transfer it to your computer when it's available. A very good time saver. A little practice and perfect scans become the norm.

I have used it to capture items from some record books where the pages are not removable. Accuracy as to color and size and shape are not the issue for me, readability is, and for that and ease of use this gets a good mark from me.

The VuPoint handheld scanner is a neat device that allows you to easily scan pages from a book (getting even into that hard to reach page gutter) and can make hundreds of scans on a single set of AA batteries. Storage space has no practical limit (8 GB micro SD is more than enough to hold most people's documents, I'm not sure what the limit on micro SD is for the device). A couple of things make it a little less satisfactory than I had hoped though. First problem, when scanning pencil or light colored ink, the contrast washes out so much that it's barely worth even trying such documents. While many scanners have problems with pencil and light colored inks, this one particularly has problems washing out the images (even black text on white paper gets washed out quite a bit). Image washout depends also on the rate at which the scanner moves across the page, which is limited by the device itself. It throws an error if you try to go too fast. The other problem, is you need to move very steadily and in a straight line. Otherwise, you can get distortions on the scan that make the text illegible. All that aside, it's a decent product, and can do some things but not everything I had originally hoped (I can't use it to scan homework, for instance). Anyway, my seller was great by the way, just a little bit disallusioned by the product itself. I ended up having to buy another one. This is an excellent device for copying documents or pictures with optimum resolution. The fact that it is a portable device for making copies adds to it's user value. I am very satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it to any one looking for this type of device. G. Harvey

This is a totally amazing tool, that I have already found quite useful, and am so glad that I purchased. It is easy to use, and can be plugged into XP/Vista 7 without using the software included, and works wonderfully. However, there is one slight drawback, that is easily overcome. You have to learn how to hold and handle the device. If you are a student, who has incredibly large amounts of material to read, you can use this amazing tool to scan your materials, copy and download them later at your convenience to your computer for easy reading. What if you have lots of old photo albums? You can easily scan the old photos and place them either back in the albums or some container to keep for later use. This way you can save photos for children & grandchildren. This is an amazing tool. Nothing short of a modern wonder/miracle to someone like me who grew up with typewriters and no computers in my youth. It comes with many nice things like two batteries, pouch to carry in anything from a purse to a backpack. The uses for this well rounded tool have not been fully realized.
