I got the white woofer version. Its bass drops out around 100Hz so no deep bass whenused alone. Mid-highs a tad too bright arnd 8to11kHz, and may take some adjustment on highs or all together getting used to. The rear panel has a rheostat for that. When used with two 15" vintage subwoofers (my jbl4320 throught active xover), the HPM40 comes alive totaly transformed, and left the limitations many think abt it (not good with jazz or classical music). The improved low end counterbalances the forward midhighs, leading to a new experience to be into for another decade. Used alone, the HPM40 aint no slouch with its 92 dB efficiency, and is good for 1970's pops and metals like Abba, Boney M., Bread, AC/DC and even some DSOTM. But I hv to recommwnd the three way design on the series, like HPM60 or 70. Why? The wooferz in this, the white reenforced one, is strong but its extension intomids only goes to abt 2kHz, above which will be its breakup range , i.e. ringing will be heard. The 3 way avoids this by cutting the mids at the woofer at 800Hz leaving at least 2 octaves to suppress the breakup effect. Got it? For similar prices, Go get the 60 or the 70, unless you just hv to.Read full review

Very well made and perfect for the HPM 40's. Love the walnut and how it compliments the original cabinet. The slight angle upwards is great as well, and that they're not too tall. It's really elevated our listening experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone that has HPM 40 speakers or similar!

I have never heard a better overall sounding speaker in the 40s class. The bass response is incredible. You'd swear theres at least a 12 inch woofer in that cabinet. The tweeters are equally impresive with high end response unmached in any production speaker.
