Really like this old saw. Has been repainted but looks better than the original sky blue color. This old saw is about 50 yrs. old but still runs great and cuts good. Homelite probably put themselves out of business because they made such a good saw. They never wore out so nobody bought new ones. Yes, they are heavy and loud and don't have the safety features, nor the EPA mandated pollution control stuff that late model saws have but that's what makes them so reliable. The new Homelites (made in China probably) give Homelite a bad name. This saw doesn"t have the manual oiler but that can be fixed easily enuff with parts from a parts saw or a kit from Ebay. I would not recommend it for heavy duty cutting but it wasn"t necessarily designed for that to begin with but its great for firewood or occasional work and its a fun saw. Read full review

I own several of these and cut hundreds of cords with them. Got my first one used in 1977. They are used almost weekly. Had to replace some fuel lines, sprockets, two coils and a carb diaphragm. Mine are between 40+ and 16 years old. Not bad in my opinion. They are hard working and reliable. If one does not idle well, look for gas leaks with the air filter off while running. I recommend them to any one who is a little handy with engines. Old School Logger

This was a older, used saw that i purchased. It needed small repairs such as carb.kit, fuel line, filter. It also needed a good cleaning.I have it to running like a champ now.It is on the shelf for show now.I am retired.I enjoy doing this as a hobby. It is a fairly easy saw to work on,compared to some of the other yesterday saws. When i can get them for a good price, like i did this one,i will continue to buy and restore. As long as my health is good and i am able.Best Regards,Bobby.
The Homelite Super XL-12 Auto chainsaw starts, idles and runs great. It's a smaller, lighter version of the monster Homelite C-51 my dad used to have, yet it has plenty of power for most small and medium sized jobs. At 3.55 cu. in. and just over 3.3 HP at 6000 RPMs, you can buck firewood all day with it and it's ready to give you more. Just 2 pounds more than my Stihl MS361. In vintage blue this saw takes me back to the 60's when we cut firewood by the truck load. The exhaust has that unmistakable old-school sound! This is arguably one of the best saws ever built - and Made in the USA!
I have had a Homelite XL Automatic for 40+ yrs and it still starts on the third pull when its cold. Wanted a new one to go with the old one. These saws were made to last. The new plastic ones just can't compete. If you take care of it, it will take care of all your wood cutting needs.
