I purchase the HW101, because they are a very nice radio WHEN they work. They are usually a cheaper radio also. The main thing about purchasing ANY Heathkit series radio's (including the HW101, is you cannot count on them working.. .Most of them do NOT work, and are sold as "in working condition". . .It is a fact of life. But, if you know a little about restoring radio's, it only takes a few hours, and these radio's are up and running for the most part. It's hard to beat a vintage Heathkit radio with good sound and audio for the price. Manuals are usually free to download, and I love the heathkits. . .vintage radio's, easy to work on, and strong performers when up and running.
If it was stated up front that in order to operate you need a power supply and specific 11 prong cable to attach. The cost for these is more than the radio.

Actually I had noticed how poorly all my Heathkit rigs tuned. But I never pinned it down to the dial plate. Great mod, highly recommended.
