The good: Large, comfortable, stylish if you're into vintage watches. The green dial brings character to the watch and adds to its military character. The Bad: The band is 23 mm, and there's not much of that size in the after market. The Ugly: Loses 1 second every 2 days. Might not be a big deal to some but it is for me. The Verdict: In spite of its minor flaws, for its price, I am still contented with this watch. I would recommend this watch to anyone.

I'll preface this by saying that as the years go by, we lose near vision - if we live long enough. The Victorinox 241291 watch is big (44 mm), the numerals and hands are big and relatively high contrast. Simple and easy to read at a glance even with age-compromised vision. Most big watch displays are busy. I don't need to know the phase of the moon; I need to know what time it is. The day-of-the-week is a full length day name, and that is good. From a human engineering viewpoint, that makes it easier to read correctly than a three character day name, due to redundancy in the information. Day-of-the-month is a little small, but that's acceptable. The high-frequency full-sized sweep second hand is smooth and useful in a variety of situations, and can be seen without squinting. The 241291 is a well-established mechanical self-winding design. I might consider a quartz movement, but I suspect that driving the big day-of-the-week disc and a high-frequency sweep second hand constantly would be hard on the battery power budget. I won't give those two features up, so the mechanical design is quite good from my viewpoint and keeps time to within two or three seconds a day (the truth is that many quartz movements don't do a lot better). Besides, I would hate to see the mechanical watch making design and craft disappear. I've had two of these, I wear one daily, and they are as good as it gets. Other useful alternatives for these old eyes have been the Damasko DA36 or DA37. I've had two of the former and one of the latter. Excellent watches. They do have higher contrast numerals, which is good. And the bright yellow full-size sweep second hand is easy to see when needed. That counts when doing something that calls for thinking on a time-scale of seconds. But it is a slightly smaller watch so the numerals aren't quite as big. It doesn't have the full day name for the day of the week display, which tips the balance toward the Victorinox for me. The big IWC pilot is another fine piece of equipment, but my purse isn't that long. So all taken together, the Victorinox 241291 is my watch of choice. There are other reasonable opinions and preferences of course. And that Virginia, is why they make more than one style of watch.Read full review

First let me say, I was standoffish at first due to the negative customer reports... But I ordered anyway... I ordered TWO!!! Don't believe the crazy, this watch is so AWESOME and you won't find the same features anywhere, I looked . Yes, it is a little heavy but I attribute it to the quality of the watch and enjoy the feeling. About all the negative claims, I refute them all. THIS IS JUST A AWESOME WATCH!!! (New, in the box / Immaculate Condition)... I wish I had this review to read when I was buying this watch, I wouldn't have worried as much. Sincerely, 3/27/2017.
