On the whole this is a good product for longer-term backpacking or hiking adventures, if you wish to pamper your knife and machete. though a bit heavier than it needs to be. It's pretty light and compact, suitable for sticking in your fishing kit or similar for touch-ups on the go. For serious sharpening at home I prefer other methods but this is fine for general use. The major downside is that it consists of 3 separate parts. Somehow I have no problem with an item having a lid or cover, but when it has 2 of them I invariably find one will get lost. I question though if you really need the smaller cover?

I have always had a classic in my pocket. It is one of my most used tools. When it lost its edge, I would have to wait to go home to put an edge back on its blade. I used the pocket sharpener this week and within five minutes, It would easily shave my arm hair. Very impressive!

Why does almost everyone recognize a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) as a handy little bundle of help? Because in the correct hands, they can make life a lot easier for the person having one. But as with ALL knives, sooner or later they will need to be made un-dull. Yes, that means sharp. Victorinox sells a leather pouch for its knives that holds a "steel" ,which is great for keeping a sharp knife very fine, but alas, useless to actually sharpen a dull knife. Here's where this pocket sharpener comes in. No, it will not put a brand new factory edge back on your knife, nor will it be as close as a professional sharpener can do. But with a little knowledge / practice / patience, this can come close. Oh,yeah!!! :did I mention that this fits in a pocket; whereas a professional sharpener, or factory, won't. So if you think there's a possibility that you may ever find yourself up a creek near Bufoo Egypt, this won't help you paddle. BUT you can have a SHARP knife. NOTE: this does not work on just SAK's (Victorinox/Wenger), but on ANY knife. Hope this helps.Read full review

I’ve been looking for a decent shapener for my swiss army knife for a long time. Just using a light touch with this sharpener quickly reestablishes the blade and finish with the ceramic v-stone to remove any burr and finesse the finished blade angle. Excellent quality and doesn’t feel ‘cheap’ like so many others.

I bought three identical used Swiss Army knives on eBay: one for me, and one for each grandson -- 14 and 11 years old. The idea was to teach them how to use a pocket knife safely, etc. That lesson is waiting for warmer weather and a weekend trip to our country house where we'll make 'walking sticks' by cutting saplings and we'll decorate them the way I did when I was a kid bu cutting designs into the bark and exposing some of the bare wood under it. First, however the knives had to be cleaned and sharpened. That's why I bought this sharpener (and the Victorinox oil) -- online research led me to the conclusion that this was the best approach. The cleaning and sharpening lesson went fine. The Sharpener is easy to use -- even for a first-time user. It's nicely made, seems as if it will last forever, and it does just what it's supposed to do. There can't possibly be a better and easier way to sharpen a knife -- and sharpen every millimeter of it from back to tip. I recommend it without reservation.Read full review
