I bought this book because I had been in a bad relationship that I didn't understand. I was confused as to why my marriage was like it was no matter what I did. A friend of mine likes to read (I don't)and she had checked out this book from the library. She read bits and pieces to me and I knew it was what had happened to me and I needed to read that book. I purchased it and have read a chapter almost every night since I got it. The book reads like I wrote it about what was happening to me - I was amazed! I underlined things and put notes in the margins and it has helped me to realize what I went through and what the effects from my marriage are so I can recognize them and deal with them to move on and hopefully never let this happen again. If anyone is in a relationship that they don't understand why it is like it is, even if you say you aren't being verbally abused, if you are physically abused (even once, even if he says it was an accident), please buy, beg, or borrow this book.Read full review
This book helps a victim of verbal abuse to see and better understand that what is happening is not their imagination. Verbal abuse is insidious and crazy making. But even after you read it and gain this understanding it is still very difficult to excape the "tar baby". I feel that it is the best book I have ever read on the subject. It makes things seem more clear and understandable.
