I bought my DD-15 about 6 months ago after many experiences with my brother's Velodyne HGS-12 and being simply amazed. I have it in a room which is about 12'x30', and it adds a whole new dimention to any movie or music that you play. The bass is tight, and deep, and when you push this thing, you'll have to put those little felt pads on the back of the pictures hanging on the wall because they WILL shake. If you have a home theater, a subwoofer is the second most important component in my opinion next to your video delivery (i.e. screen/projector, or television). Subwoofers are typically fickle because low frequencies often have "hot-spots" in a room. This sub comes with a microphone, and calibration software. Simply plug the mic into the sub, punch a couple of buttons on the remote and it will self calibrate to your room. My experience has been that it does a fantastic job. If you're bent on doing it yourself, you can plug in a video display to it to see a profile of the sound output vs. frequency, and tune it however you wish. Very high quality, beautiful finish (I have the black one, and the finish is like a gloss piano), and best of all they are hand made in the U.S.A. The thing is fairly large (and weighs about 100lbs) so it's good if you've got a place set aside for it - I have mine in a cabinet. Also, they recommend having a dedicated circuit, atleast 12A, for it because it is 1250wRMS/3000W peak. Bottom line - if you want a killer subwoofer that will augment any sound system, this one won't dissapoint you. It's not cheap, but you will get what you pay for.Read full review
First off, I'm not a audiophile, so you won't see me talking about techno calibration statistics, but I do enjoy a quality sound. As such this subwoofer can go extremely loud and low. You get what you pay for. This is an extreme performer but comes with a hefty price, you need to decide if that quality is worth the price. Coming from at first stereo sound and no sub to a Velodyne 10 inch, 375 W max DPS model sub, I've seen a huge improvement with each increase, though the law of diminishing returns does start to become noticeable with such professional speakers. I tested my system out with the T-rex scene in Jurrasic Park each time. Now that I have the dd-15 to compare with, the difference is between a boom and thud. Certain details were brought out by the dd-15 ability to shake and thud more than just boom. And that's exactly why I purchased the sub...Read full review
The Velodyne DD-15 uses the same size magnet the 18" does, without nearly as much expense. The sub did a great job blending in with my large Klipsch speakers and is fantastic at reproducing low and mid range sounds. The system includes an easy to use set-up - that maximizes the impact of the bass. Made my system sound 50% better - replacing a Klipsch sub with 2 12" speakers - incredible difference.
