This little device is a great swap for traditional lighter fluid lighters. It doesn't smell when burning, your don't get fluid on your hands, and it lights instantly. The only drawbacks would be that it is a VERY tight fit in the zippo shell, and the fire compartment isn't open on the opposite side like most pipe lighters. But I do recommend it.

The only negative comment I can make on this lighter insert as compared to the stock Zippo insert, the Thunderbird has more trouble lighting and staying lit in the wind, or lighting in the first place.

I wanted to give this 4 1/2 stars, but since I can’t, I thought it more fair to give it 5. The only thing close to a bit to pick is that by converting to butane, you do lose the “wind proof” feature of the Zippo. It still works very well, but noticed that it is more prone to lose the flame with even a stray “puff” of air in it’s direction. Having said that, I don’t intend to go back to lighter fluid after using this pipe lighter insert! Never have to worry about the fluid drying all out, just when you need it.

After a few weeks the on/off mechanism works slow, sticks or refuses to work. I just put a couple drops of oil on a Q-tip and oiled the on/off mechanism and Walla, better than new. This is a quality item that works very well. After a few months I really love this product as I find it to be much better than the liquid fluid in every aspect. Burns cleaner , much better flame, the lighter and flame doesn't smell, easier to fill, do not have to fill as often and less expensive. I will update this after I purchase additional units.

Ive only had my thunderbird insert for a few weeks. So far so good. I'm using vector fuel (recommended) and before filling, push the fill nozzle to release pressure. Seems to last longer doing it their way. Only thing I don't like is it's hard to tell how much fuel you've got unless you hold the insert up to a bright light. However I can deal with that.
