Further proof that Ewan McGregor was no fluke in Moulin Rouge. Or John C. Reilly, who has spent many years on Broadway, was equally underrated in Chicago. Same for Victor Garber. But who knew Scarlett Johansson, Lucy Lawless, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss could carry a tune? Love Eric McCormack, but he just doesn’t do justice to one of Elton’s earliest classics. Likewise Jennifer Garner, Jeremy Irons and even John Stamos are out of their depth. But the real embarrassment here is Teri Hatcher, who needs to loosen up. Taken as a nice little lullaby album, it lives up to it’s goal, but there are plenty of other actors who could have turned in better performances. At least there isn’t a Shatner or Nimoy to be heard.
I like this CD a lot. It was bought to help my son go to sleep at night, but I ended up liking it myself. I was happily surprised by these singers I only really wanted the CD because of two songs and instead I like mostly the whole CD. The only thing I dislike is that some of the songs are really really slow or overdone. But they are great for the purpose I bought it for. So that works.
I usually like compilation actor/actress CDs, but this one was average. Highlights that i liked were the songs by John Stamos and another by Teri Hatcher. Not one of the best Cds i own However, a portion of the proceeds goes to "Music Matters" the educational programs of the Los Angeles Philharmonic! Thats always a plus!!
I only bought it for Lucy Lawless' song. It's a slow, sweet song that shows some of Lucy's great range. I loved it!!! I have not bothered to listen to the rest of the CD so I don't know how it will sound.
