** VOX Valvetronix multi effects Review ** I got my start in guitar with the boss GT-5, then a rocktron vudoo valve. Due to the constant tweaking and usability issues I went all analog pedal board and have not looked back. The Tube reactor series from vox seemed pretty revealutionary when it came out years ago but Choosing the all-analog route I could never warrant buying another multi-effects unit until these are appearing on ebay for dirt cheap and better than any multi-effects I've tried and here is why: 1. First off the sound quality is pretty close to my analog setup due to the 12ax7. It is very rich in harmonics, cleans are great, still boosts the overall sound quality of any amp. I was quite suprised. 2. Layout! It's perfect. Exactly what I need in a really easy proffessional layout. 3. The effects are made to work together. Boss, Zoom, Rocktron, heck even line6, tc electronic, etc etc ALL suffer from volume changes between effects. Some effects are just so out of tune, they just become unuseable - BUT with the VOX in is actually TUNED. Nuff said! 4. Quality of the unit. Even though it has a digital heart, the overall quality is that of a stompbox. Lots of metal 5. Univibe, rotovibe and wah are excellent. Again very suprised of the quality. Very closely tuned to the best songs they were used on. 6. Wah/vol pedal's are the real deal. Taken right off the vox wah. 7. Compact size - considering the number of stomp boxes it represents. 8. Basic tweaking is pretty easy Now if I like it this much why ony 4 stars and not 5 The bad... No usb display is somewhat limited Tube is tough to get to. a few of the key and sound assignments don't make sense yet....need to hit the manual. Other than that I could say this really blows away the boss/roland stuff and some of the other names I mentioned. It makes higher quality sound a cinche' to obtain.Read full review
"Rock" solid. Pun intended! It is a tank. I bought Vox because of this. I have not had a chance to set my own settings. Also, it is not that intuitive to me what I need to do. But, I did print off the book that goes with it. It is written by a regular guy and he walks us through it. So, just a little time and reading and it should be up and running. A lot of the settings are useless. But, that is how these companies all put out product these days. Ever scrolled through organ or keyboard settings? Yep. That's what I mean. But there are some good starting points and a few that are pretty good as is. It is also nice to have all the different amp and cab possibilities. It is very possible to just set your amp at Vox, add an effect and play. Tweaking and personalizing can come later. It sounds really good through headphones. I have not hooked it up to my Vox 4x12, or a 212 yet,nor the p.a. for that matter. But, I am sure it will sound great. I have tried Digitech and some others. I don't think they measure up. This one has a real tube in it. Most others don't.Read full review
Even though this is an older model, it is the best sounding unit made. It sounds and reacts like a tube amp! If you take the time to build your patches, you can do almost anything with it. It sounds great through a PA and killer through an amp. Especially a tube amp. I run mine through two 18 watt tube amps(stereo) for stage volume and run direct through the PA for the house. Killer tone! Big sound. Down side, Buttons on circut board wear out, hard to see display in sunlight, a delay when switching between A and B channels
I had been holding off getting myself a pedalboard, I took a look at several, but all to me had that stale digital sound, and I was looking for something that had a sound close to my analog effect pedals, I was about to buy The newest version of the VOX Tonelab series but seen the SE in demos on YOUTUBE and was impressed by its tone and it has more options than the later versions. When I first pluged it in it would say it takes sometime to get use to all the features, you really got to use it and mess around before you could be able to use it live, but once you got that down it has the tone I was looking for and combined with my Marshall JCM 800 50watt 2x12 combo or my Fender Blues Jr. RED October 15 watt amp this pedalboard is hard to beat.
I purchased the Vox Tone Lab from WickedSue. Shipped quickly and perfectly and the pedal was in mint condition as stated in the ad! Thank you
